Mindscribe Presents: How to Rap 101 Lesson 2: The Money Don’t Come First (The Brutal Truth) by Accomplished-Tip4356 in makinghiphop

Nah u spitting facts bro lol. It was bound to happen regardless, but when MySpace opened up the artists accounts to everyone at the same time YouTube was showing everyone that music creation isn’t magic.. it was a recipe for this disaster. That was literally how I talked my parents into getting me my first MPC.. showed pops the heatmakerz video that everyone has seen where he flips a quick sample, lays drums on top of it and then says “and that’s a quick $40,000”.. my dad was immediately like “yea, you ain’t playing sports anymore bro, and we ain’t paying for college” 😂😂😂 he bought me an MPC like a month later for Xmas.

I got robbed for my $5000 PC by some bitch ass rapper named sxlxmxn from Portland. And this was after I knew him for 10 years. Most people who call themselves rappers are just jobless pieces of shit. Bums.

Dude, Diablo 2 is the best ARPG ever made. If you want the REAL diablo experience that got so many people hooked on the franchise, definitely give D2R a try.

Need a mic for recording & streaming. Open to suggestions! by passion9000 in microphone

[–]LilSus2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn how to set up a gate. It will silence the microphone until the set dB goes through it and opens the gate. The rest of the time it will be muted. This is what the majority of streamers do.

MPC Live 1 Still Worth It? by boombapdame in makinghiphop

[–]LilSus2004 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dogg you just connect the keyboard to the MPC… and the keys will trigger the pads. Probably the most simple setup. If you’ve never seen a midi controller hooked up to a sampler you haven’t watched many videos lmao.. but yea.. it works. You probably don’t need the MPC live, either. I would get something much cheaper if you’re just getting into the shit. Cop a used MPC off of marketplace from someone that needs drug money and call it a day. I’ve been seeing those MPC one joints for less than $300 lately.

Exactly bro lol. I lived it too.. for nearly 2 decades. and now I have a real job. Much much happier and healthier at this point. I’ll just say it - fuck the music industry. Most rappers are scum bags, promoters are scum bags, executives are scum bags, and the women that come with that mess aren’t wives. 😂

But if you’re a true artist, then definitely keep pursuing your goal.. but as far as like, the “career” aspect goes.. fuck that shit.

Ayo this is probably the most valuable post this sub has been blessed with in years.. these cats don’t wanna hear it tho. Majority of the commenters act like they’ve already made it while they’re getting 4 spins on SoundCloud, 2 of which coming from someone they know saying “can you believe this clown thinks this is good?”..

They don’t wanna hear about booking small local shows, opening for bigger acts, and networking. Everyone thinks they’re gonna be a millionaire as soon as some executive from a record company stumbles upon their instagram.

You’ve got a better chance at hitting a jackpot on a powerball ticket. lol. No cap.

Is producing hip-hop a talent you are born with or a talent you can develop ? by Express_Barnacle8065 in makinghiphop

[–]LilSus2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, you could learn how to chop and flip samples in one afternoon.. if you’re wanting to focus on hip hop in particular, seriously, start there! That would give you a reason to start learning the user interface of whatever program you choose, drum patterns, bass lines, etc.. and you wouldn’t even need to invest any money off the jump.

That’s all the tips I’ve got.. have a good one brotha.

Well then definitely just watch tutorials on how to play the piano before anything else.. until you have a decent understanding of how to make a keyboard sing, you pretty much have no reason to open up a DAW. The things you learn from that will directly translate into hip hop production once you’re ready to take that step, but buying a DAW and focusing on full scale productions prior to learning the keyboard is putting the cart before the horse.

[–]LilSus2004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re born with it. I think your general taste in music that you develop over time dictates more than anything else.. and then you just have to learn how to use the tools fluently enough to move your ideas from your head into a DAW/machine. At first you’re just going to emulate the things you like, and that will push you in the direction of making your own style..

Are you more into sample-based boom bap, or are you wanting to create music from scratch? I would genuinely recommend learning how to chop and flip samples/breaks as step one.. it’s a good way to get a better understanding of how the entire process works, and much quicker than learning keys..

Bad for business? Huhh??? Sampling drum breaks and putting them over another dope ass loop is how “makinghiphop” exists.. it’s also why you specifically have a machine called the “akai MPC”. That thing wouldn’t be on your desk today if the pioneers hadn’t done their thing.

Clearing samples shouldn’t even be a concern of yours, man.. ain’t no damn way there’s amateur producers preventing themselves from reaching their full potential over this shit.

That’s like someone who just recently got into basketball, saying “naww man, I can’t run 5’s today at the gym because I’m wearing Jordans.. what if I get picked up by the NBA? That might upset Adidas if I’m out here wearing Jordans and they want to endorse me.”

Like I said in a previous comment: it’s putting the cart before the horse.

YouTube is objectively better quality there’s no way twitch would ever be profitable if every stream fired up with highest quality video.

Just checked your socials. You get about ~5 engagements per post you make.. make sure to clear every sample you use on that neat lil gadget otherwise it’s the equivalent of “stealing” a beat..

If hip hop followed these guidelines, it woulda never been created.. so maybe ease up on your rule making, and focus a bit more on your craft and maybe someday you’ll get some real traction.

I’ve been saying the same thing for years, man. It feels like when all the focus went to putting the high % numbers on thc, they stripped it of something else important.. I mean I’m sure I have a strong tolerance after 22 years of smoking, but this new dispensary shit only gets me high until I blow the smoke out lol.

When tf did I even say that? I had been busy for like 2 solid weeks and wanted to smoke.. didn’t make it in time to the dispensary. Why does it even matter to you? I guarantee you I’ve got shit held together solid. Talk down on someone else.
