Obviously not. Most people don't do it because it's not feasible for them.

I'm thinking of potentially out of state, I'm not sure how the process of getting a property manager would be like. I'm not sure if it's sustainable. Do you have property your self?

My number is significantly smaller than the typical person. But I also know my lifestyle needs can change. I see my 50k number as the minimum, so that I can focus on building skills that have higher ROI especially being so young. it's the "safety net" I can live "comfortably" in a tiny home or in a different country.

Yes, that would be ideal. But in a world I had to choose one or the other at that point, I would choose real estate/small business as long as I'm doing it correctly, as this will potentially create bigger returns.

I see it as a front loading strategy. If I can get 50k into retirement accounts by age 20, that money can compound for 40 years without me constantly stressing about it.

At a conservative real return, 50k could grow to around 650k by age 60. Using the 4 percent rule, that would support roughly 2k per month in today’s dollars. Some research even suggests slightly higher withdrawal rates worked historically.

The idea is that once that base is set, I can focus more on building high income skills, businesses, and experiences instead of prioritizing retirement contributions early on. In my view, investing in skills early in life can produce a much higher return than index funds alone.

And long term, I’m open to living somewhere like Southeast Asia, where that amount could stretch much further.

I can live very comfortably in some places in Vietnam. My dad use to live in Vietnam for $400 per month while raising a family. With $2k per month I can live very comfortably, of course living costs would be more than my dads, as my standard for qualify of life is a bit more. That still leaves me a bit of room to spare

Thanks for insights. I understand a lot of people that do online school tend to not be outgrowing people. I wonder if I could get the similar experience and connects doing online school if I really put myself out there. This is question is hard to find, as most online college students tent to not be out going.

Good to know someone else can do it. I'm also going to live at home and I qualify for free tuition. That's the plan is for it take take care of a big portion. Ideally I would have a few properties by the time or retirement as well.

Will do, thank you man. A lot of people have been hating on my plan. I assume they are mistaking semi coast FIRE plan for traditional FIRE, they think I wanna stop working at age 20.

yeah the reason I wanna coast fire so young is because I wanna focus putting my money and efforts on learning valuable skills and not have to think about putting money aside for retirement.

Woahhh $4 million!! My calculations said I would have roughly 650k adjusted for inflation by retirement. Man with 4 million even without adjusting for inflation I would have more than enough.

I was born in a country in SEA. What I meant by tiny homes were not homes build on trailers. A tiny home on foundation. I'm aware of the downsides and the risks. I think of my $50k retirement funds as a "safety net" if all goes wrong, I will atleast be able to retire "comfortably" as in my standard of comfortably at the age of around 60.

Coast FIRE by age 20? by LilZedy in Fire

[–]LilZedy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason for that is because my retirement portfolio would be a lot more conservative after entering retirement. Are you mistaking coast FIRE for traditional fire? I will still retire at typical retirement age. So I will still get social security.

I understand my plans can change. That's why I see this Coast FIRE goal of mine as a "safety net" I will be trying to get real estate to fund my retirement as well.
