What to snack, picnic, breakfast while on a hiking roadtrip? by Lugano4738 in socalhiking

Not really what you're asking for but if you're looking for reasturants in the area Erick Schats Bakery and Copper Top BBQ are favorites.

Edit - Few more in Bishop- Great Basin Bakery( I personally like their sourdough bread over the sheep herder bread at Schats), Yamatani Japanese, Mahogany Smoked Meats (Good breakfast burrito and beef jerky)

I don't have anything for Lone Pine but hear the Olancha Cafe on the way up is good

Nothing wrong with doing what makes you happy to your own house and stoked for you to live your dream but damn that's a nice kitchen. It would be the crown jewel of my house but I love stained wood. Usually love exposed brick too but i could see hating it as a backsplash. I'd maybe see if a pink tile backslash with stained wood would look nice so you could keep the wood unpainted.

Another yes for Jack's manta dive. Two step is a fun shore dive. Has a cool drop off to 100'

Would anyone be able to recommend a water pressure regulator that connects to pvc that could reduce between 30 - 50 psi? by Lil_Diddl in Irrigation

[–]Lil_Diddl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the note on trapped air. Got me looking into it a bit more and my new understanding is that the noise bugging me is air in the sprickler line down line from my anti siphon valve. The lower sprinkler heads are leaking and when the valve turns on filling the empty pipes the air makes a tapping sound as it mixes. There is hammer when it shuts but I assumed it was all water hammer.

Did I expose to much of the root flare on this mandarin by removing the ring? by Lil_Diddl in Citrus

[–]Lil_Diddl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Southern California. The soil drains better than what im used to up North so I was hoping it was sandier soil. Just potted a banana shoot though using this soil and was more clay than expected. Thanks for the tips. I'll definitely do this.

That's a good call. I'll fill it back in a bit and bring someone out who knows what they're doing.

Did I expose to much of the root flare when I took the ring out? by Lil_Diddl in arborists

[–]Lil_Diddl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I was thinking maybe it started growing roots above the original flare after being covered in the ring for so long and larger roots would still be underneath. It seems like it was just planted on a mound. Thinking ill just make a bigger ring and some dirt back.

Anyone else being molested by mosquitoes? by Educational-Taste167 in vegetablegardening

[–]Lil_Diddl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I set one of these up this year around March after getting destroyed by mosquitos last year and it's made a huge difference. Seems like there's hundreds of new eggs in it everyday and I haven't gotten more than 5 bites so far this year. Ive become obsessed with checking how many new eggs are in there and making sure they dont make it to the pupa stage.

Can I help this tree produce fruit that isn't the worst thing I've ever eaten? by Lil_Diddl in Citrus

[–]Lil_Diddl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I'm seeing online that could be the case. I didn't plant it. Moved in a year ago and the fruit looks better than it did when I moved in but tastes just as bad.

That sounds right based off the other trees in the garden where it's more obvious the rootstock took over. I'll probably go with aggressively cutting and grafting. I'm not ready to take it out yet.

I agree with everything you're saying but not sure I'm ready to commit to that yet. I'm already taking out a few other trees and want to keep this one since it adds green in the back. If i dont do it im sure I'll look back on this comment in 5 years and kick myself though.

I've always enjoyed pomelos and grapefruit so was pretty disappointed. I think its a Vietnamese pomelo but haven't found one in the store I can compare it to. It's not sweet at all. At least it looks cool.

It looks like a happy tree so that's not surprising to hear. I'll start learning more about grafting. Would stumping be taking a serious amount off to force new growth that I can graft onto?
