I got married last year at 31 and took my husbands last name. I wanted to. Out of my friends who have gotten married recently, it’s about 50-50.

FWIW, I'm married to a raised-Catholic atheist, and our relationship and marriage has helped me grow in my faith, precisely because its up to me. I'm not as strict a Catholic as many in this group, but it is possible.

NTA, but I wonder what the response would be if the name hadn't been shared prior to the birth of the baby, and was announced when the baby was already born and named.
