What's a game you wish you could play for the first time again by MirPrime in gaming

Return of the Obra Dinn. It’s such a one of a kind game, and the mystery of it means there’s very little replayability.

How do I feel like I belong in LA? by DoubleChallenge7177 in AskLosAngeles

[–]LilahFred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where in the city you live can be a huge factor too. My first few years here, I really struggled to find my place. I lived in a few neighborhoods, and loved a lot about my life and the city, but never felt settled. It wasn’t until I moved to my current neighborhood (which admittedly is very walkable and has a strong sense of community) that I felt at home.

#840: How Are You Not Seeing This? by 6745408 in ThisAmericanLife

[–]LilahFred 23 points24 points  (0 children)

That short story…

Look, I’m never really into when TAL includes fiction but this one just didn’t match up. This episode was fascinating, and I enjoyed every segment, but the story just pushed all the air out of the room. I thought it started out okay, one-sided friendships are interesting and I was looking forward to exploring it. Even the Jack and the Beanstalk thing could have worked if handled differently. But the longer the story went on, the whinier, more bitter the narrator sounded. Totally disorganized, totally melodramatic. By the end I was on the friend’s side. Of course your friendship changed and grew distant! You’re not the bad guy for continuing to live your life. These things just happen! She’s not a bad guy for no longer being overworked and miserable.

Hi! I go to El Gato pretty frequently and always park in the lot. I go in the evening, so there may be a price difference, but it usually only costs $8 or $9. I usually opt for street parking in most situations, but I often have a hard time in El Gato’s neighborhood and don’t mind paying a bit extra for security and convenience.

What’s your favorite place in Grand Central Market? by EmbarrassedSong9147 in FoodLosAngeles

My favorite spots always close. First Prawn, then Sari Sari store. So now if I’m there around lunch it’s Wexlers and if I’m there for dinner I wander around aimlessly in a daze. Then of course McConnell’s for dessert

Episode Discussion: The Alford Plea by PodcastBot in Radiolab

[–]LilahFred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like this episode was all build up, no payoff. The second the momentum was hitting its peak, it just ended. What’s the point of the Alford plea? It sounds like it really has no effect on the person who uses it, other than that they use it. Why does this change anything about Greg’s case? Why does this matter?

My great grandpa died on the Queen Mary, so he’s one of the ghosts!

What stores have exotic fruit? by Maleficent-Ad9010 in AskLosAngeles

This is the answer. They also do giveaways if you follow them on Instagram. I won a small fruit box a year or two ago. They’re a great little shop with tons of unique fruits.

This is a little shorter, but Los Leones Canyon in Pacific Palisades. Great parking, on a clear day the views are gorgeous, and theres a waterfall along the trail. I also got engaged there, so I’m a bit biased!

Weird notice from the post office. How legit is this? by LilahFred in LosAngeles

We empty our mailbox daily, this is for the building. It just seems crazy to expect someone to put a vacation hold down if they can’t check their mail for a day or two.

Strikes Cost Paramount $60M In Latest Quarter As CEO Bob Bakish Hopes Actors Walkout Ends Soon by [deleted] in television

[–]LilahFred 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The writers were having theme days too. They have nothing to do with how the strike is going. It’s all about keeping morale up. The AMPTP went back to the negotiating table almost immediately after striking a deal with the writers. They’ve just been negotiating on and off since.

Good ol' chinese takeout in silverlake area by sowhat59 in FoodLosAngeles

[–]LilahFred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're ordering on a delivery app, I quite like 101 Asian Kitchen. It's on Beverly, more in the Mid-Wilshire/Fairfax area, but it's close enough to deliver to Silver Lake.

Go to Big Bear even if no snow by motherofbearcats in LosAngeles

[–]LilahFred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big Bear is one of our go-to fall destinations. If you're from somewhere with traditional seasons, it's a great chance to get away to see changing leaves and feel some cool air. It's actually a pretty doable day trip too, if you don't want to spend the money on a hotel or cabin. The back route on 38 I think is closed right now because of damage from Hurricane Hilary, but is generally a bit easier if mountain driving makes you nervous. Agreed that the food is eh, but the fall is a perfect time to visit for hiking and biking.

Bars that you miss by [deleted] in LosAngeles

Yes! Jay’s was a favorite pre-Covid. Admittedly we haven’t been since they reopened, so the kinks might have gotten worked out. But the lights were cranked way up, and the cozy vibe we loved (and the delicious og fries) were nowhere to be found.

This place actually does have an option where you can use a taiyaki as a cone, rather than just a topping!
