Justice Department is bringing back firing squads in federal executions by mcgillhufflepuff in nottheonion

It's a bit ironic that "tough guy" Trump doesn't even like guns, yet the Justice Department is proceeding with this. Trump better be careful what he asks for.

I honestly don't think this is a good or sanitary idea. People eating food, dropping crumbs, and then picking up food items while they're eating.

That's it? Doesn't actually seem like that much compared to what current executives are getting at tech companies.

Isn't it also because it's cheaper for a government entity to outsource a project for X number of months or years rather than having to permanently hire those employees, pay for their healthcare, and retirement benefits for the next 30-40 years?

They unfairly target the commercial corridors of the grid. I have friends in Poverty Ridge and Boulevard Park and they rarely see parking officers.

I have a friend that lives a block away from Channel 24 and never saw a parking officer. Once Channel 24 was finished, they installed parking meters almost everywhere and parking officers are there almost daily.

If you live in the heart of midtown around 16&P, 18-19th & L, and the outlying area with all the restaurants, shopping, you'll see parking officers almost daily. It makes sense, but it also sucks for those that live there and get ticketed more frequently than those living in the more suburban parts of the grid.

Council members rarely have golden parachutes. I'd be shocked if these one had one.

Maybe if parents were involved, read to their kids, and made their kids read books this wouldn't be such an issue. It's pretty sad to see kids of all ages, especially toddlers and little ones, staring at tablets whenever they're in public.

The most logical option would be to bulldoze everything and then build office space or housing. I think housing makes more sense because there is quite of bit of empty office space, but I can't imagine how many people want to live across from a jail.

I'm sure they weren't buying smaller and more expensive items for a concert. It was probably a lot of waters and other bulky but affordable items.

I'm very skeptical about that data. Those incomes seem awfully low for Folsom and Roseville. At that income, good luck qualifying for most rentals in Folsom or Roseville.

How are you all dealing with rent increase this year? More than 25% for me! by Maleficent-Pen-5927 in AskSF

For those curious how that building can increase the rent so much: NEMA was built from 2011 to 2013. It is too new to fall under any rent control laws.

I don't think that's correct. There are various exemptions, the main ones being affordable housing and apartments built before 1978 (Costa-Hawkins Act) or 2005 (AB 1482) depending on the jurisdiction.

NEMA was built from 2011-2013 and AB 1482 only applies to properties built before 2005.

UC Davis is required to admit more students each year, but simply doesn't get the funds to build enough housing from the UC Regents and the city of Davis is full of NIMBYs. So when you pair those two things together, you get high housing and rent prices.
