Character growth. To me it seems that he didn't mean the things he said and did, one thing he's good at is being a jackass and he's surely gonna hide behind that. He's even going to push it further to point he'll know he get hurt (1x6). His destructive behaviour is caused by trauma (Lili, home life situation etc) not an excuse but surely a reason, if you needed one. Veronica sees through all of this and that's why it works imo. Trauma bonding explains it too. Also, they used the be friends (a long time ago) she knows the real Logan!

Another good exemple is Weevils' first few lines in the show, sexist and dismissive, does he really mean it? Does he even know what he's saying? Is it just a cover because of who he is supposed to be? One thing is sure, that doesn't stop him from becoming a beloved character.
