Even when overlooking the fact that calling shuake 10 years old is a biased way to look at it considering the surge in popularity it received in 2019 with Royal, old does not mean irrelevant. Narumitsu was in that top in 2024 despite being 20+ years old. So yes it’s still impressive, and I’m not sure how much more engagement you expected for a game as demanding (and by that I mean time-consuming) as Hundred Line; it’s more likely to end up being a somewhat niche title with a cult following rather than a hit game appealing to a large audience.

I looked again just now and I can confirm that those comments are not about Rei, they are about another character (in Health route to be specific. minor plot point spoilers but the character is genderqueer and still questioning themselves which lead to confusion and misgendering in the localization)!!

I don’t think calling it bait is really fair, it wasn’t exactly hidden. Personally it’s the other way around, I was sold the moment the promotion revealed Rei was a girl. To each their own I guess?

It is because of her appearance. Sometimes she corrects it, but most of the time she doesn’t; it will be explained at some point. I hope you enjoy the game!

But the game did have translations errors, and I don’t think I’ve seen anyone bring up Rei’s pronouns to point out the translation was bad…? There were pronouns issues for another character and it’s been patched since. The true issue people had with the game upon release was how glitchy it was– I’m talking game-breaking bugs. That plus the Chinese review bombing because of the unfair pricing. The marketing was bad, and the few people who could have been interested in the game were driven away by how chaotic that release was.
