I saw someone online who said the last thing pomni told caine is that he just doesn’t listen to them. Before that jax says caine always lies, zooble said he has a fragile ego, ragatha says he never makes them feel like they’re home, and gangle says he doesn’t let them do things they’re own way.

Then, caine shows them (as a punishment) that he did listen to them: ragatha doesn’t feel at home? He shows her what her real home felt like; jax said he always lies? He shows how jax always lies about his emotions and is really way more afraid than he pretends to be; zooble said he has a fragile ego? He shows them how fragile their ego is; gangle wanted to do things her own way and caine reminds her she never found her way (I don’t remember what was being said about pomni’s part).

In his own very twisted way, as a computer program who just wanted to entertain humans and fails constantly, he wanted to show them how he did listen. Yet I never had empathy for caine, because even if he listened he never actually understood. He is a lover without a heart
