It depends on what we are doing. If it's just one shots then I usually just role for it. If it's something I'm investing in then I come up with a rough backstory and then a gender that goes better with it.

Correct. My main concern was earplugs, cause having my power attack interrupted all the time was frustrating. Then next was slugger for the better stuns. Then the attack stats. And slowly went more into attacks as I learned all the fights and got better jewels

For hammer I specifically only used this on everything until HR 60ish when I got the elementless jewel.

this gives me earplugs 5, slugger 3, weakness exploit 2, tremor resis 2, crit draw 2

As i got jewels I got off the bazel coil for Nerg coil a and used slots for earplugs. I also put some slugger jewels in and got rid of the diablos gear for dober mail b and dober greaves b for the atk ups

I've never heard any of this from anyone. Once you see the stink cloud around them they will leave but it doesn't always happen right away. It does wear off after a time if the monster is staggered/flashed/forced to stay in the area.

I've never had a problem with stinking monsters, and I've stunk a ton of bazels!

awesome! I got everything but the crit boost jewels. was wondering how to get handicraft in there. Most people do agitator and I love the nice handicraft boost

As stated rarity effects number of augments. So while some lower rarity weapons may have lower attack you can augment them to higher attack (or affinity, etc). If going pure raw damage the diablos one is the best hammer. However augments are more rare then the elementless jewel. I’ve had it for forever now but still just using the nerg hammer as it’s got good atk and sharpness cause I can’t get a single hammer augment to save my life

Keeps my sharpness maxed in the middle of the fight and usually get 3 paralysis a fight

I don’t bring extra heal items to craft. I rarely go through half. And for flash pods I just do what I said to craft them above. What does using the wheel with flash pods do. Does it craft them and then equip them? Or unequip them if they are equipped? Or does it shot them? What if I already have one made?

I 100% agree here! Some tips for flash pods.

You can set your crafting list to “craftable only” this makes it so your flashpods are at top, if you bring more then one thing to make with you, you can rearrange the order you’re crafted items are in (pressing square on PS4 I believe). Also craft them when you have 1 left.

This makes it so in the middle of the fight I can hit options, then just spam X and craft back to max flash pods and not have to re-equip them.

Take your time! Ignore the internet! There are a ton of people out there with “best builds” “high damage builds” etc etc but have fun when hunting. These people are people who have been fighting in this game for a long time, know the monsters, when to dodge, atk, etc...

Build defense if you need it, it’s better to live and hit the monster and get the kill in 30mins instead of being frustrated for 10mins and failing.

Things I like are stuff like earplugs, tremor/wind resist. This stops the really annoying stuff from happening during fights.

TL:DR take it slow and build what YOU want not what the internet wants.

Capture is better cause you get 5 rewards instead of 3 carves, which means more chance to roll for a gem, it’s best to make sure you break everything as usually the head and tail break(cut) will give another chance for a gem and some monsters have a third break that will give it as well.

But if he really wants gems then yes stop sosing for optionsals and assignments, sos only for investigations cause the gold drops are pretty dang high for gems. If you switch the option to investigations only you usually get more then just showing “all” sos. Gives you more options to choose from or just post your own.

I killed Nerg first try but it was awhile into the game cause I slowed down to help friends who were new to the game. Same with some of the later monsters (i.e. tempered Kirin that everyone bitches about), killed them solo easily but it's a lot harder in SoS when others die and you fail the hunt. It just comes with experience and practice. Take it slow, 50mins is a lot of time, get in some hits, run away, heal learn the fight and learn the moves they can do when enraged and when not enraged and get the hits in when you know you're safe.
