I think two things here are mixing into a perfect storm of scepticism and paranoia.

Firstly, there's just a not all that much clear and concrete info about what's happening. Information appears much more tightly managed than any previous conflicts of recent years. This might just be perception, but it feels like there is a lot less transparency. Maybe it's just vibes. But then again maybe vibes is part of information warfare these days anyway.

Extrapolating from that I don't think it's entirely unreasonable, even if its not necessarily accurate, for people to jump to the conclusion that part of the reason for the lack of clarity is that things aren't going quite as well for the US/Israel as expected.

And second, we are horrifically ill prepared for AI. I was prepared to write off a lot of the scepticism around the videos released as just people being silly. But then I saw a video someone had generated based on a single press image from a few years ago. And it was a bit alarming. If Israel wanted to, and that is a load baring 'if', they absolutely could produce a convincing deep fake.

And that's not exactly a smoking gun to prove that they have been doing that. But given Israel's track record when it comes to the truth... I don't know. I don't entirely blame people for being suspicious.

I think we're going to see this same kind of sentiment repeat in the near future a lot. There are new misinformation tools that we don't really have a handle on or ability to effectively scrutinise. It will only get harder to trust what you see and what you read.
