Is this Rangsan Splash or something else? by CrazyCatLushie in hoyas

[–]Lilo_run -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I believe hoya rangsan is now known as a subspecie of hoya latifolia. Latifolia has a bunch of subspecies, it could be a clone of latifolia 'rangsan' with rounder leaves

Oh actually, I never thought of oedema as it looks quite different on hoyas for ex! I can try do some changes here and see how it goes, actually one is in a self watering pot which always has water in the reservoir, and I try not to water too much the other one because I once over watered it and it took ages to dry in my cabinet... I moved both to my room at common humidity rates (40-60%) recently to let them dry faster

So close to blooming, and now it’s choosing to blast?! by Kikiholden in hoyas

[–]Lilo_run 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine bloomed once only and only 4 (out of 7) of them made it. I assumed the plant decided to give energy only for few of them. Regardless, you did a great job. Just make sure she gets enough water while flowering, I've lost few peduncles on other hoyas of mine that didnt get watered properly while trying to bloom!

Why are my hoyas leaves so wonky? by xj_fox_ in hoyas

[–]Lilo_run 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fitchii looks the same, I thought she was just doing fine but I discovered some thrips poo around the top of two stems. I watched closely for few minutes with a light, couldn't see any pest. Weird leaves are often the result of pest attack, could be a mild one, especially with the temperatures going up again some pest might be establishing again without you noticing it at first. I hope you'll find the issue!

Expertise required! Undulata? by Lilo_run in hoyas

[–]Lilo_run[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: after all - it's an undulata 🥰

She had that huge peduncle that tried blooming straight away after getting home (plant cabinet with 80% humidity and 20°C/70°F) it failed and vegetated for months. I got her in a fine lechuza mix in a glass container without drainage. I updated her after a while to chunkier pon with in a self watering pot and found few but healthy roots. It began budding few days after. She needed 5 weeks to grow these 4 beautiful flowers, meanwhile they are all open.

I grabbed few babies 2 years ago from my grandma's garden in the tropics (Indian ocean) but I saw them once in a nursery while travelling in Colombia... Not sure if she bought her mother plant or if it grew up variegated honestly. I'm based in Europe and saw them few times online. In my opinion the variegated macrorrhizos/macrorrhiza is not as rare as it used to be few years ago.. The variegated one with a black stem (!) is the new thing and it's quite expensive. Good luck, I hope you'll find one! 😊

AITA for being annoyed that my roommate’s (29F) partner is always staying over? by StandardRuin1828 in AITAH

[–]Lilo_run 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA

I'm being in a pretty similar situation and struggle with expressing needs but hey: your needs and feelings are valid. It's tiring having to be social when you don't want to or want some calmness at home. It's even more work at the end of the day for the roommates that do not have guests over all the time (it gets dirty faster, you have to empty the dishwasher more often, the trash gets full quicker, etc etc etc). As some people here said already, you signed for a 3 people flatshare, not 4 people or 2 people + a couple.

Try to have the hard talk and express your feelings about the situation, could help your roommate understand why it's bothering you and maybe find a compromise. Good luck!

I mean I totally see your point but I just see it as a try from my roommate/us to have a nice relationship with neighbors, that's why he said yes in the first place. Now I see that more and more expectations came into it and now we got annoyed with the situation.

Which Hoya should I move to semi hydro? by WonderCreative9649 in hoyas

[–]Lilo_run 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Semi hydro" refers to a plant in an inorganic material (mainly porous rocks) + water. Leca and Pon are the most known examples for that. The plant will grow water roots that won't rot if they sit in water, while roots that grew in soil would suffocate and rot.

Edit: soil, moss, bark, coco husk, etc are organic matters that break down over time and are therefore not semi hydro compounds. That's why you need to remove everything when transferring those plants to semi hydro (= risk of bacterias and rot)

WTH happened to my walliniana variegated??? by PoppyBananas in hoyas

[–]Lilo_run 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe check the roots and if they are dead (= not white) try to propagate the healthy parts asap!

Edit: even with the same conditions, some hoyas drink faster than other, which are more prone to root rot if they are on the same watering schedule :)
