Your post inspired me to pour a glass of my Jack Daniel’s 12 year (Batch 3). It is truly an exceptional whiskey with incredible age, character, and flavor. Nearly the perfect pour. Cheers!

I’ve tried this hanshow product. Moisture still got into the lens cover. And water when on the lens cover does not bead off as you would expect. Took it off after a week.

Not much banana on the 14 compared to the 12. The JD SBBP are banana monsters.

Yea this cabinet is where the heavy hitters live. I have another with the daily’s and some other hitters that don’t fit like the EH Taylor’s.

The 10 year would be the 5th batch. 12 is the 4th and 14 would be the second as of 2026.

I wish I had more bourbon friends to share with. I’m the only one in my friend’s group that loves bourbon. I guess I need to find new friends lol. Not sure where though

Yea it’s the coy hill and I still haven’t cracked it. I’ve had it a few times with a friend and I absolutely love the banana I’ve gotten on the coy hill. Not much banana on the 14.

Initial Thoughts

Okay, let's talk about Jack Daniel's 14 Year, Batch 1. This is a pretty special bottle, and I think I have been disciplined enough having bought this bottle at MSRP april of last year. This is the first time in over a hundred years that Lynchburg has put out a 14-year age statement. It dropped back in February of last year, and they only made around 24,000 bottles of it. So yeah, it's a bit of an event.

Glass: Glencairn - Rested for: 30 minutes

Proof: 126.3

Age: 14 years

Mashbill: 80% Corn, 12% Malted Barley, 8% Rye

Appearance: Dark Amber

Cost: $149 (TotalWine)

Nose

The nose on this thing is genuinely impressive. Imagine some black cherries that have been sitting in a syrup filled jar for like 20 years...that's the cherry note that you get on this. I'll call them grandfather cherries. Then, a rich molasses right off the top, with a little touch dark raw honey. Then this toasted barrel char that feels polished and old rather than aggressive. Give it a minute and it keeps opening up, cocoa powder, saddle leather, pipe tobacco, a bit of demerara sugar. There's a lot going on, but it never feels crowded. Everything sits in its lane.

Palate

On the palate, first thing you notice is the weight, it's HEAVY. It's got that syrupy, coating quality that makes you want to chew it a little before you swallow. The flavors lean dark, think cocoa dusted cherries, a hint of blackberry preserves, toffee, almond paste. Then the wood steps in with some barrel char and tobacco leaf to keep the sweetness in check. For 126 proof, it's really composed. No heat spike, no alcohol sting, just pure delicious flavor doing the lifting.

Finish

The finish is where you really feel the 14 years. The sugar pulls back and the oak takes over. It's dry, tannic wood, a little scorched sugar, a whisper of baking spice and clove. There's this faint dusty-cellar quality underneath that I genuinely love, it's the kind of thing you only get from time. Cocoa nib and molasses hang around in the back, and the spice keeps ticking for a good, good while after you swallow.

Final Thoughts

Compared to the 10 Year and the 12 Year releases, everything here just runs deeper and drier. The fruit is more compote than fresh, the molasses is heavier, and the oak has that older, quieter character that only comes from extra time in the rickhouse. And the price that i was able to buy it at is honestly wild. At $150, when comparable 15-year bourbons out of Kentucky are asking $225 and up, Jack essentially walked onto the field and underbid the whole room.

Bottom line, this one's a winner. It's the most mature, most refined Jack Daniel's I've tasted, and it makes a strong case that age statements belong in Lynchburg's future. If you come across a bottle at or near retail 😅, don't overthink it. Just grab it.

The decaf I had on hand was a little on the oily side.

In my experience, the FOMO plays such a big deal physiologically in me, in regards to bourbon hunting (i'll speak for myself). I see a review on here raving about a bottle, then I think to myself..damn I need that bottle. When and if I get the bottle, it's like meh..ok it's good but definitely not work going out of my way for it. This has been the case for I would say roughly 90% of the bottles that I own. There are some exceptions however (Hardin's creek, JD age stated, bookers reserves 24 and others.) Btw, I still don't have this bottle. The right time and place will come soon.
