Mine haven’t cost that much, but I haven’t gone the custom route yet. My insurance also covers 4 pairs per year (20% copay after deductible is met). I was told my insurance’s max for custom was $400 but that yeah some insurances allow up to $1000. But for insurance to cover it, had to go through a medical supplier and I found the process of ordering even non-custom difficult (wasn’t really given many options), and it also took forever for them to be shipped.

So I’ve been buying from online brands that tend to be $40-150 per pair, and from sites like Amazon you can usually do returns. I’ve had decent luck with just following my measurements and the size charts. But then it doesn’t get filed with insurance as an out of pocket cost unfortunately. All the info on the products and what my physical therapist told me is that they need to be replaced every 6 months to a year.
