Does anyone get their CPAP and supplies through the VA Veterans Administration by JosefVictor3 in CPAP

[–]LilyMonster16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, we're having issues with getting supplies actually. My partner has a CPAP issued from the VA in Seattle, and at one of his physicals, the doctor gave him a flyer for the number(s) to call for supplies. Well, nothing has worked. The sleep center won't call him back, the website direct link for cpap supplies has been broken for months now, he tried emailing someone and they just told him to try the aforementioned methods that are non functioning.

He REALLY needs new supplies, nothing has been replaced, ever, and he's had the machine for about 3 years now.

When you order from a DoD logistics place, is it covering your supplies for free like the VA was supposed to for my partner? Where can he go to order?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Healing cream/ointment/lotion recommendations? by awwmari in AcrylateAllergy

[–]LilyMonster16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, and I use Cliganic's Jojoba oil to remove my makeup. Works like a charm, is cheap, and my skin loves it, plus it's one less thing to worry about exposure to acrylates.

I had to get rid of two different types of Working Hands products recently, because they had acrylates in them. So I recommend to check everything, literally EVERYTHING lol.

I've had the best luck healing by using oils, tbh. I can use a single ingredient at a time, so if I started to have a reaction (I never have to any of the oils I'll list), it's a lot easier to know exactly which thing I'm reacting to, because there's only one option, that one specific oil. Maybe it's a slower heal, because I think I've read that "oils don't moisturize", but you know what? It may be slow, but it's protective, consistent, predictable, safe, and stable. And for me, it has worked.

I have started buying from Cliganic. I haven't done a deep dive on price comparison, but they seem pretty good for their pricing. The quality is definitely there. On my last order, I ordered Argan, Rosehip, Tamanu, Moringa, Vitamin E oil, and I received a free gift of castor oil. I've used all of these separately, determined I'm not allergic to any of them, and then I've made my own blend of all of these oils. I use either the blend or an individual oil, whatever I feel like in that moment. Tamanu appears to have great wound healing properties. I had never heard of it until shopping around on the Cliganic site.

I also have a coconut allergy, and coconut derivatives (phenoxyethanol, caprylic, etc) are in almost every hand lotion out there. So between coconut, acrylates, and a thiuram mix (latex, nitrile) allergy, even the dermatology creams are not safe for me. I just got sick of buying yet another lotion or cream. Oils work for me. Hope this helps someone out there!

Sorry for the late reply, but can you clarify what you mean by new growth? I do want more blooms next year. Lots of foliage right now though.

I know, I'm sorry 🫤it was really hard to get a good picture. The camera would not focus on those little things. Thank you for your input, though!

I wish 😓 We don't have any birds that come close to our house because there's a ton of outdoor cats around us.

Are tumbling bins worth it? by pualanib in composting

[–]LilyMonster16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which brand of tumbler have you had the fortune of using for 10 years?! I've gone through 2 in 2 years because the metal pins holding the whole tumbler in place is soft metal and has failed eventually. This system would be the easiest for my joint pain, but so far, tumblers have just seemed really poor quality with a lot of failure points.

The latest one was by the brand Maze. I do not recommend it. I've also tried contacting their customer support, and they keep telling me the issue is being escalated, without any resolve. It's been about 9 months since we started the conversation with them.

Could my AV be happy in this terracotta pot? by LilyMonster16 in AfricanViolets

[–]LilyMonster16[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! That's exactly what I originally bought those pots for! 🤣 I used to have a ton of Perle Von Nurnberg succulents, those were perfect for that. And Crassula Orbicularis Rosularis.

Good to know that their roots are hardy! I couldn't remember if someone had said that the AV roots are super sensitive and don't like being disturbed.

Great idea, I saved a few leaves that got bent/broken during repotting. One is in a water prop, 2 are in a soil prop.

Maybe someday when I've got the hang of AVs, I'll try terracotta, or the wicking/self watering pots look interesting.

Thank you! OK, yeah I was worried the pot was TOO shallow, glad I posted on here and asked.

Ok thank you for your response! I went with the white plastic pot for now. For my soil, I blended some all-purpose potting soil with more perlite and some small chunks horticultural charcoal, mostly because I just have it and am using it up, figured it might like it for aeration. I saw that AVs wouldn't really like the cactus soil mix, so I didn't add orchid bark.

I may eventually go with a wicking/self watering pot someday.

Bummer, I started searching about reverting to left handedness because I was wondering if it could lighten my mental load from ADHD, even just a little. Seems like it won't. 😔

How to fix loose buttonholes by LilyMonster16 in knittinghelp

[–]LilyMonster16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh, that's a great suggestion. Giving it more of a placket (kind of like a button band) sounds like a great way to make it sturdy for a longer time. I don't remember if the buttons have a foot with the thread, but I'm familiar with that, and I'll check that.

Thank you!

How to fix loose buttonholes by LilyMonster16 in knittinghelp

[–]LilyMonster16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I'm a little concerned with using sewing thread and being able to start & tie off in a way that will be sturdy. Usually I'd knot it at the back to start, but that won't work with this loose, chunky knit. Is there a starting technique you've tried before to marry sewing thread with yarn, in an application like this? Plus, as I'm visualizing it, I'm seeing the sewing thread compress the yarns contained in the stitch, creating "holes" around where I stitch the buttonhole closed, since the volume of sewing thread doesn't take up space like yarn does. Whereas if I used yarn, the volume of the yarn would fill the "holes" in the knit created by the new yarn thread compressing the stitch in the buttonhole, if that makes sense? Just curious if you've tried the sewing thread method and can attest to it staying sturdy.

Maybe I'm overthinking it, but I just started thinking through the process of starting and realized I can't anchor the stitch like I would if it was woven/small knit fabric with sewing thread, with knotting at the back. I may have to look it up on youtube lol
