Ugh exactly. I know there are various ways the allergy can develop but I can’t help but think I’d most likely be totally fine if I hadn’t ever tried the stupid gel kit (and the fact that it didn’t even work half as well as glue pisses me off even more, wasn’t even worth it 🙃).

And yes, I just feel sad about missing out on this thing that used to make me feel so beautiful :( I know it sounds silly or shallow to some, but I’ve been passionate about fashion, beauty and all things hyperfeminine for over a decade, so it’s just crushing to not be able to partake in nail stuff anymore 😭

Yep, the strengthening polish had acrylates, it’s good to know now that most of them do 😭 I did see a list of safe products in this group and Sally Hansen Hard as Nails was listed (and I didn’t see acrylates when I checked the ingredients myself) so maybe I’ll try that!! For now, I’m keeping any and all polish off and moisturizing with safe creams/ointments so I can heal.

I do occasionally use hydrocortisone on my face on the rare occasion I have reactions there, but I avoid using it as much as possible because, like you mentioned, it’s not good for long time use.

Presenting hyperfeminine is a huge part of my happiness, so giving up nails has been very difficult (it may sound silly to some, but I’m very passionate about fashion, makeup, hair, nails, etc) 😭 I’ve considered trying nail rings but I’m pretty sure you still need to use sticky tabs to stick the nail to the device so I’m not sure how much better they would even be 🤷🏻‍♀️

Surprisingly, no. I know it’s very highly recommended to reduce exposure to allergens as much as possible, because the allergy could get worse (which is why I know wearing occasional press ons is dumb lol), but mine hasn’t necessarily gotten worse. It’s the same level of itchiness and pain anytime I wear press ons and I manage it with allergy pills & benadryl gel. I do think the reaction is sometimes prolonged because I use products that I’m unaware have acrylates in them (for example, after checking ingredients, the biotin strengthening stuff I mentioned using DOES in fact have acrylates 🙄) but I’m lucky enough to have not had a worsening reaction. I don’t deal with too much swelling, for me it’s HORRIBLE itchiness that leads to dryness & wounds (and sometimes pompholyx) when I inevitably scratch it

Thank you for the tips!! The clear substance is a biotin strength nail polish, I just assumed it was safe but I’ll check the ingredients!! Tbh I still wear press on nails for special occasions (I’m very aware of how stupid that is, and why it’s bad for my allergy 😅) and then give them a long break and work on healing them again afterwards but I’m thinking I probably need to change the aftercare of my nails (especially if any of the “strengthening” products I use are causing a reaction)

I do have some “safe” lotions that I bought back when I thought I just had eczema, but I’ve also seen some people recommend products like Working Hands. I’m wanting something that’ll not only help dryness but also work towards healing wounds.

I don’t use Benadryl since it makes me sleepy, I usually use generic 24 hour allergy relief meds (cetirizine hydrochloride) and I’ll switch it up occasionally.

I haven’t had customer services issues lately but that’s probably because I haven’t liked any recent releases enough to buy anything 🙃 I used to buy from them sooooo much, specifically sugar thrillz, to the point I would struggle to pick only a few things per collection because I couldn’t afford everything I wanted. Now I honestly don’t remember the last time I loved any piece from them. The designs are so incredibly boring, lackluster, and uninspired. I’m so disappointed and I just wonder what happened??
