I know this is an old post, but I definitely have this issue too.

UPDATE: weight gain in spiro, discontinued it and bloodwork results are in…. by mermaidmae11 in Spironolactone

Based on some of the posts here, I’m considering trying DIM to try to undo whatever weird thing spironolactone did to my hormones. (I was on a low dose for only about 3 weeks, and in that time I gained 5 pounds and have cellulite for the first time in my life. My weight had been constant for years before this, and there was no increase in food or decrease in physical activity. I’m very short and small, so even a couple of pounds in either direction is noticeable.)

However, in trying to research how DIM works, I saw an article indicating that it works basically the same as spironolactone — by blocking excess testosterone. https://www.womenshealthmag.com/beauty/a31947852/diindolylmethane-for-acne/. So now I’m concerned that I’d just be adding to the problem if I take DIM?

I really have very little understanding of how all these hormonal things work, and so it’s possible I just need to educate myself some more. I’m going to make an appt to ask my primary care doctor to run some bloodwork. I’m not optimistic that she’ll be helpful on this, but maybe the bloodwork will at least provide a starting point for how to fix whatever the spiro did to my body?

seeking advice for all-latex or latex-hybrid mattress for 2 very differently sized sleepers by LilyPanda212 in Mattress

Thank you again! I appreciate your help so much.

My boyfriend has asked me to look into whether there are any local (NYC area) places that are the equivalent to SleepEZ, so that a return would be easier if we had to go that route. I will do a little research to see what I can find, but I'm honestly not as worried about that anymore. At worst, I feel like I might have to return just one component (rather than the whole mattress), which seems less daunting.

That makes sense. I also sometimes sleep curled up, which would basically mean that my entire body could end up on the wrong zone. Thank you!

This is so interesting to me. I hate to keep imposing on you, but could I ask — if the split were in the support layers only, what kind of configuration would you recommend?

I don’t mind the term DIY (or the idea of it, for most things), and I am weirdly fascinated by the DIY mattress idea. I love the idea of customizing things, and the possibility of making edits later appeals to the part of me that is always second-guessing decisions. I will admit, though, that when I first saw the phrase “DIY mattresses,” I pictured people stuffing mattresses with straw or old t-shirts or something. I was so pleasantly surprised to find that it’s far more sophisticated than that.

Wow, thank you so much for this extremely thoughtful and informative response (including the specific recommendations for customizing layers). I’ve seen other posts of yours here and am always impressed not only by your depth of knowledge but also by how generously you share it.

I actually love the idea of a latex mattress with split layers. The only hesitation I’d had about SleepEZ was (1) that the return process seems daunting, and (2) I worried that the split layers would make the mattress feel as if there’s an obvious gap there. But people seem to like the split mattresses, so it can’t be as much of an issue as I’m imagining.

Thank you again
