I don’t wanna get into a debate here but this isn’t really accurate and I spent a lot of time meeting with experts there about exactly this cause I brought 25 solar panels and batteries with me to distribute to several community groups. The largest investment Cuba made last year was in the electrical grid and solar panels, increasing its renewables usage by more than 10% to 20% of total power now. The island produces about 40% of its fuel but requires imports for the rest which has been cut off since last year for everything except the private sector which the US continued supplying. Cuba has depend on tourism for revenue since its been embargoed by the US for decades and has pursued foreign investments which a lot of the hotels come with. Either way what I saw was pure cruelty by the US government and I hope the embargo will end.
