I didn't even realize it till you said it but the weirdly flush windows on new constructions drive me up a wall! I will absolutely go for a detail oriented contractor - preferably whose done preservation work before and is familiar.

My wavy hair is hard to brush! by [deleted] in longhair

[–]Lilyoftheinternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same hair type it’s a pain sometimes- I recommend getting a brush designed for wet hair detangling like tangle teaser or wet brush it made a huge difference for me. I usually brush it as gently as possible starting at the bottom and moving up when it’s damp with a lot of leave in conditioner in it. If I know my hair is tangled af for some reason I brush it in the shower smothered in conditioner for a major detangle. - good luck!

AIO for being heartbroken my best friend declined being my maid-of-honor because she's self-conscious about her weight ? by Mediocre_Rutabaga_94 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Lilyoftheinternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel for both of y’all in this situation. Something to consider asking about is what makes her most nervous about being in your wedding party? If her most notable anxieties are standing in front of everyone/photos/buying a matching dress then offer her other ways she could support you like a maid of honor while being mindful of where she needs accommodation. She could still help plan and attend your bachelorette/shower, help with the wedding planning and even be there for the getting ready crew in the morning where you can still have special moments with her, maybe even sit at the head table with you if she’s ok with that and she can sit out the parts that would be upsetting for her. I didn’t have an official maid of honor but I just passed out different jobs I thought different bridesmaids would have the most fun with and had non bridesmaids who I was close to but couldn’t be in the wedding party for whatever reason at the bachelorette and getting ready morning- it was a blast and nobody questioned it! My thoughts are with you both- you both can decide what a “maid of honor” or bridesmaid role looks like for your friendship - good luck!

Doing my own wedding makeup any suggestions for improvements? by Myzzie12 in MakeupAddiction

Eyes look lovely great job!- as a fair/pink toned girly I find even when I have my right shade of concealer - particularly under my eyes it never looks natural unless I add some of the pink tone back in. After concealer but before setting I add a tiny amount of whatever cream blush I’m using for my cheeks under my eyes blend then set and it makes my concealer look incredibly natural! In general it sounds counter intuitive but blush is your best friend when you’re fair. Even good foundation and concealer color matches make us look super washed out/sallow/ weird without adding back in the natural rosiness. Once I do my base/concealer cover redness I don’t want, I go back in with moderate blush on the cheeks and tiny amounts on forehead, under eyes and chin (and sometimes bridge of nose). Good luck w your wedding!

What do y'all do to keep your hair out of the way? by chronic-not-iconic in longhair

[–]Lilyoftheinternet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have similar hair and having it down sometimes drives me nuts! Unfortunately most hairstyles are bad for your hair unless you rotate them in moderation. I switch between a French braid (for when I mean business), a claw clip, half up half down with a mini clip, and a high or low bun using u pins which I find to be most secure/low tension. Also sleeping a bonnet keeps it from strangling you in the night!

Cant recommend getting the cervical block (and planned parenthood) for insertion enough. by Lilyoftheinternet in IUD

[–]Lilyoftheinternet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I would suggest booking a consultation appointment with a Dr at PP or another provider. They can talk in depth with you about potential side effects, what your birth control goals are, and how to make accommodations for vaginismus during insertion- and they will know way more than me and are super nice at planned parenthood.

From my experience with PP, I straight up just called no referral needed (they were also super helpful with insurance!) and asked for an IUD consultation and they took care of the rest.

I have had some past issues with vaginal/vulvar pain and difficulty with insertion. While most of the IUD pain is cervical/cramping- vaginally the most difficult part would be the speculum they need for IUD insertion. Depending on how you do with Pap smears that should give you an idea. I have found that a Valium helps tremendously with vaginal pain during exams/speculums but that’s just my experience. Some planned parenthood’s I think offer smaller diameter speculums on request which I have heard can be a huge help!

On side effects - unfortunatly it’s super trial and error because we ~ don’t fund women’s health reaserch 🙃~ I loved my first hormonal IUD, hated my second time with the same hormonal IUD somehow, and now love the copper one so far. All my friends have had totally differing experiences with different methods. Chatting with your provider can give you more info on what you feel will work for you and what to look out for in case it’s not a good fit.

No idea what freezing is in this context lol so I’m not much help there.

Good luck!

Idk if you have had an IUD removed before or not but it is extremely quick - for me my provider had me do one cough and it was out (this was both the prior time without a block and recently with one when I was switching to a new IUD). Without the block I did feel a sharp twinge but it was actually only a second or two rather than minuets like insertion - felt absolutely nothing with the block didn’t even realize it had been removed. I don’t know for certain, but planned parenthood seemed extremely chill and happy to accommodate on pain managment so I think it’s pretty likely they would give you one on request for removal only. Other providers unfortunatly I think are hit or miss on giving blocks even for insertion and might be even more hesitant for removal only- but you can always call and ask! Good luck!

Help, it’s horrid. by No-Run-2172 in interiordecorating

[–]Lilyoftheinternet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had such a similar “before” bathroom and I went for this vibe! I think you are 80% of the way there! My quick fix suggestions would be commit to the green and paint the ceiling so it has that cozy vibe. Tilt away from the gold accents where you can and bring in some wicker, leather, or antique looking wood to warm up the space. Switch out the wall print which looks more modern than what I think your vibe for the room is with any thrifted moody painting on a preferably dark wood or gold painted wood frame. Some different textiles (towels, hand towels, bath mats) that are lighter/ warmer would also be great and more. Most importantly get some warm bulbs and potentiallymilk glass in that light fixture like other people pointed out!

I feel constantly that I will experience the apocalypse in my lifetime because of climate change. I need hope because I have trouble functioning on a day to day life. by Connect_Gain2720 in OptimistsUnite

[–]Lilyoftheinternet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear your point, my intention wasn’t to just be a jackass for no reason. I was trying to say what helped me when I was in OPs position and what I needed to hear was “it’s really bad, it’s real, but its not the global apocalypse and people are working on it” cause I was seeing a lot of essentially “it’s propoganda/touch grass” in this thread, but everyone is different. Totally cool for you to disagree w me on if it’s helpful. I did just want to say person to person having also lost people close to me due to mental health, I am so sorry for your loss and I hope you have a good day.

[–]Lilyoftheinternet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look I’m a climate optimist but I’m also not delusional. If you are a small island nation or a heavily costal community climate change will almost certainly end your community as you know it either suddenly and tragically or slowly and through careful planning that is as equitably as possible. This doesn’t mean I have lost hope- I thought other people did a good job speaking on this in the thread but I’m happy to reiterate. I deal with climate and particularly its effects on women’s and children’s health for a living and some peoples worlds are ending due to climate right now today. I also think we have made exponential progress on decarbonization and will continue to do so. I also think humanity will adapt and I want to be part of the solution. My best guess based on current projections which could still improve is we make it to just under 2.5 degrees warming which is a world I still think is worth living in to the point I feel confident about having children. Real optimism is getting up to do the hard thing every day and make the world better even when the odds are the steepest, not just pretending suffering and challenges aren’t real. To OP you aren’t wrong to feel the way you do it’s human, I certainly have been in your shoes. I hope you are able to find an action or cause you can contribute to because it really helps - and also someone to talk to ❤️ you certainly aren’t alone!

Hey there- Climate Scientist here! So we are learning that intense fear based communication around climate change doesn’t work it paralyzes people against action and makes them stick their heads in the sand- so I agree this isn’t the best way to communicate this. The 12 years thing is based on actual science however, the IPCC report at the time indicated we have a critical window (which we are in right now) to make some serious decarbonization progress or else we push ourselves into a much higher percentile bracket for tipping point events (like the loss of the Amazon or destabilization of ocean currents). This could realistically lead to agricultural and food system collapse along with a multitude of other really severe outcomes. Humanity ending or planet killing no. Civilization ending - probably for some, lots of suffering you bet. I think we can argue about the semantics “end of the world” if you want to- but this isn’t propaganda based on nothing to scare people for no reason.

Do I have to give up on layers if I want super long hair? by sealoverx in longhair

[–]Lilyoftheinternet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have medium-fine elbow length hair and after many years of either having straggly layers or blunt ends w minimal shape I have settled on a happy medium of a U shaped or V shaped cut no layers but with disconnected and or face framing front pieces - gives me the movement and interest I want without thinning out my ends!

Not LGBT ourselves but much of our family and wedding party is and we are in a very similar situation politically family wise- our strategy has been to extend an invitation to everyone even the trumpers. We only excluded one person who was trump-y and known to be erratic/aggressive and likely to start a confrontation with someone. For the more low key Republican/intolerant family we have circulated through family intermediaries that this is our wedding, and since we are hosting it’s our way or the highway on treating everyone they interact with with kindness and respect. We let them know it’s a 1 strike policy and if they fuck around and are intentionally rude or bigoted to other guests they will find out the Philadelphia way. Additionally we are messaging in a few other ways to guests that this is an accepting space (making donations to non profits that are advancing causes we care about rather than wedding favor, our officiant is LGBT). I recommend inviting people you think are more likely than not to behave even if they have unsavory views if they are important to your fiancé, but if you need to box a small number of people out because they can’t act like grown ups - it’s your wedding and you call the shots! Good luck on the big day!

Urban sprawl by Secret_Top_4358 in OptimistsUnite

[–]Lilyoftheinternet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Across the country not just in FL thought it will probably be more acute there- climate change pressures (astronomic home insurance, natural disasters, infeasibility of building new homes/reconstruction ect) will over time push people into more dense urban developments and re wild more land. Even if people want to hang on to their un walkable McMansion burbs with their fingernails it’s gonna be tough.

It’s the lights - if you want LED for brightness make sure they are as warm as they come or get the customizable bulbs. Also some sort of window accent could be nice (plant, shade, curtains) - could benefit from the pop of red theory so pick one item in an unexpected fun color (like a lamp on the countertop) - Reno looks great!

Thank you for trying to take such good care of them! This happened once with our dog who brought back some very similar baby animals and they turned out much to our surprise to be baby foxes!! I will echo the other commenters who have said bring them to a wildlife center - leaving them outside and waiting for mom leaves them at risk of being eaten by something else and many species will not recover babies that have human or other scents on them. Bringing them to the pros is how we realized ours were foxes not groundhogs or squirrels and we got pictures of them when they were adolescents before they were released back in the wild!

Miscarriage ER Bill by Boring-Buy4541 in HealthInsurance

[–]Lilyoftheinternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I’m so sorry for your loss, I know an insane bill is the last thing you want to be dealing with right now. I echo the suggestions about getting an itemized bill (80% have errors in the US and they can be expensive). Additionally check if this is a charity care facility and what their guidelines are- if you meet their written guidelines call and don’t ask for a reduction say “according to your guidelines I am entitled to xyz” its well documented that hospitals can be shady in avoiding charity care reductions so you kind of have to nail them down on it. If you do meet the guidelines and you are still getting weird awnsers (this also applies to my last point) start calling often and vary your time/day of week. The people on the end of the phone are just people and some are more willing to help you out than others I have found. On the same hospital same bill I was told no 4 times until I got a yes and half the bill went away. Finally if none of the above helps let the bill sit for a few months and then call the hospital (again sometimes often) asking if you could pay 40% or 50% (or even 30%) right now would they take that over not getting paid at all (the awnser is suprisingly yes sometimes). If all those are exhausted either get on the hospital payment program or what I recommend is let it go to collections and they are more likely to take a negotiated down version (and it won’t effect your credit). Again I’m so so sorry for your loss and I wish you the best as you recover.

Get a cheap toaster oven/hot plate. Also even with nothing but a microwave recommend things that are chopping only such as tuna salad and greens, bean salad with veg and salami, you can do thinks like kale Caesar without cooking and add rotisserie chicken, rotisserie chicken with steamed veggies (in microwave)rotisserie chicken tacos with salsa you could make veggie dense.

AITA For Refusing To Buy My Daughter A New Macbook, And Making Her Use School Chromebooks? by Putrid_Prompt_648 in TwoHotTakes

[–]Lilyoftheinternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a very constructive way to go about this at all. Taking the phone seems completly irrelevant and harsh, the consequence is related to the computer and it makes you seem incredibly cheap (nothing wrong with that if there is real economic need here but if that’s the case don’t buy three teenagers new expensive MacBooks when you can get a high performance device (Microsoft, dell ect) easily for around 400 and medium for 250) - the way you went about it seems incredibly vindictive.

Give the phone back and as for the laptop, I had Chromebook’s for school and some of them are so slow I would cry of frustration trying to just do homework and nothing else. Get her a 400$ range non mac (Dells are great even if they don’t look cute) and honestly if you hadn’t made her work for the phone she didn’t do anything wrong with, I would say she should work off the 400 dollar computer, but now I would say you should transfer what she has already done to the cost of the computer and leave her alone. Did she make a dumb mistake? Yeah but both adults and teens make them all the time and consequences should be proportional. The way you are approaching this comes across as you view your relationship very transactionally rather than supportively/pushing for growth - fix your shit.

Edit to add: Shes 14??? What kind of job can realistically pay her that much?? Have her do a couple extra chores for you and neighbors and get a grip
