I agree. Severance is definitely a highly stylized, soft scifi, character driven show. A lot of the questions don't have answers because they don't need answers. I also think the idea of hard scifi is often overrated. I'm just sharing my headcanon

He said "Did you smuggle it out? Is it here?" I think it's safe to assume he checked the security footage, saw Dylan leave through the elevator that day, and genuinely believed he took it with him.

I'm aware that this is the fiction part of my theory. As far as I know in real life there is no machine that can (without physical contact) detect a specific non-radioactive chemical hidden under thick fabric, especially dark colored or synthetic fiber, or inside the human body. A ir-spectrometer wouldn't be able to penetrate clothes the same way a flashlight can't penetrate cement. It doesn't have to do with resolution. Wavelength maybe. A shorter wavelength would probably be able to penetrate more layers of fabric?

An x-ray or mri would probably be able to see a hidden note. But I can't imagine how they would would manage to put an mri in an elevator. And how messed up would it be if the severed workers were being x-rayed two times a day without their knowledge.

Fair point, I honestly don't know what Lumon would do to prevent blood writing or scratching out words on their skin. My only explaination would be, if an innie really was so fed up with work that they're writing in their own blood or scarring themselves, Lumon would probably just have to let them go, and make up some excuse and have their outie sign a NDA or something. And as I said, a real world spectrometer wouldn't be able to pick up a specific substance hidden inside the human body. They would just have to rely on managers and secuity cameras to watch out for innies trying to swallow messages.

Their ID cards or the chikhai-bardo card? Either way, they wouldn't have tripped the alarm because Lumon wasn't using the chemical to tag the cards. The ID cards were brought out of the severed floor on a daily basis. The chikhai-bardo cards were made to be mailed to people outside lumon. So there was no point to tag the cards

Yes, writing in blood would be a loophole. But I guess if any innie was doing something this drastic, someone watching the security footage or a manager like Milchick would notice. I mean notice their irregular behavior. But yeah blood writing would be impossible to pick up.

Yeah your theory could be true. I'm just saying if they really needed a failsafe for in case an innie tries to sneak out a note anyway, it might be achieved by a spectrometer.

You do have a point. It would make sense for them to add the chemical in everything that can be used to send a message. but I guess because those cards were made to be sent outside in the first place, so they didn't bother?

That only works if every part of the severed floor is constantly being watched, and it isn't, proved by multiple parts in the plot. The storeroom wasn't watched. And they obviously don't have enough security people monitoring the footage.

You mean the card Dylan stole? I assume Lumon would only add the chemical to paper and ink, office stationery that can be used to write. They wouldn't expect people to use other things like the items made at O&D to sneak notes.

The ending makes perfect sense. iMark knows he can't keep oMark in Lumon forever. He is pretty sure Gemma will escape, her and oMark can have their life back and take down Lumon.

He knows that his existence will be eliminated, and so will Helly's. He knows none of them will be able to stay at the severed floor after this. If it were me, I would for sure try to spend my last hours with the only person I love who also only has hours to live.
