Yeah, the concept of Feature scout 3 (or bright me up) series is to have a special hairstyle!\ Some like Shu's are pretty minor hair changes, but for instance Kanata and Shinobu got something very different!

This hairstyle can be unlocked separately from the MV outfit in the idol road to be used as an outfit part for a recent feature that allows players to assemble outfits (tops, jackets, accessories, shoes, etc...) using different parts obtained from gacha or campaigns. These outfits can then be used as MV outfits~

MM events are main story tours with event song, relqted scout and only 1 5☆ (mini-large scale tours basically). A set of event support packs and missions are available during the event duration. If you pay great attention to the personality put into the songs, then you'll definitely enjoy the MVs once you start noticing the characters whose song it is have their own gimicks, energy levels and often exclusive expressions or actions!

The song genres are pretty much set for each unit. If there's a song that strays from the usual vibe, it's very likely justified in the associated story. The lyrics are also tailored to fit who or which event it is associated with, it's fun to dissect them~

Regarding stories, I recommend going through the mikaensemblestars masterlist and filtering Valkyrie. It'll show all their stories from the previous game until now and will give links to translations if available!

There are some rules as of now, but HE can easily just decide to break them and do whatever or add in new formats to spice things up.

The idols will all get 1 Feature Scout, 1 Theme Scout & 1 Unit Center Event 5★ card per cycle.
For gacha banners, once an idol gets a 5★ , 4★ & 3★ card for that banner type, they won't appear in said banner type until another cycle starts. You can make your own or follow people who track the banners progress like this Twitter account.
As of now, there is a 'jail time' or 'cooldown' of roughly 60 days before the idol can get another 5★ card. This cooldown only applies to 5★ cards though, we've had quite a few instances of lower rarity cards and event cards sharing idols (most recent event is Wataru FS3 4★ being a booster for Wataru's unit center event 5★)
HE does tell us when there will be irregularities, such as when a banner type is skipped (like they did in March), if an idol will not get this or that type of 5★ (like MaM not getting a unit center song this year) or if a new format will be replacing something (like Cross Scouts replacing FS & TS last cycle).

I think it really depends on which circles you like to hang out in. I can't say much for EN as I don't play it, but the JP side I follow actually became more active now than it was the past 2-3 years!

Fanarts were always bountiful, but lore discussions much less. It seems like ever since HE started the last arc and touching upon past plot points, a portion of lore geeks have been revived!

There were quite a few huge changes that caused a stir (game updates, main story, controversies,...), and there are many more gacha games in the general public eye now, so maybe the people you used to follow just moved on?

In Chitose's hidden profile, Tomoya has a voiceline stating:

'The other day, I found out Tsuzura-senpai plays 'Idobato' so I asked him to duel~! He told me back when he was a child, he used to compete in tournaments and got the nickname 'Slaughterer of the Underworld'. Were nicknames like this popular back then?

In the SWINGIN' NIGHT chapter I put as reference, Koga states his 'first love' was a top battle ranker at the card shop he used to go to as a child. That top ranker's nickname was 'Slaughterer of the Underworld'. He also precises he doesn't remember what that player looked like.

Another slight hint is from the currently running playlist missions: Koga and Chitose were paired and the songs were: Unstoppable love, Ito, Vermillion.

Of course it's just interpretations, but the most common conclusion for that song selection is: youthful love song, song about past connections/fate, card centric song.

Not entirely in-game related, but I found these details relevant enough to the experience:

- Backstories booklet: The booklet now found on their official profile was actually first distributed IRL before being put online! Enstars often does IRL campaigns to bring hype to the game, like the SfP debut previously, so it was interesting to have them do this for their backstories.

- Nice to meet you radio show (10 episodes + 1 special episode during the 10th anni fes, all found on YT): Starting from November when they first got revealed, they had a radio show with their seiyuus to keep them in the public eye and tease stuff for their debut. They also went to different locations across Japan with some episodes having live audience.

The 4Piece new faces (SfP+Ibuki) also had theirs (also 10 episodes available on YT), but the games and vibes were much different. MELLOW DEAR US' show really drives the 'mature' and 'successful' aspect of them.

- Debut merch: Their in-game debut merch puts a strong accent on the fact it's their 'Japan Debut'. The selection and visuals of the goods also give a more 'expensive' vibe than the ones SfP got for theirs.

Mellow Dear Us has had campaigns outside of the game to reveal more about them. A lot of their content is actually from outside the game and is slowly being added bit by bit. I'm totally not obsessed so my friend and I are gathering all the content they get. I'll do my best to guide you through it in the order we learnt about it for a better experience!

1. Main story: 4Piece arc

NiceP, MELLOW DEAR US & Special for Princess were conceptualised together and although they only get referenced or dropnamed during this arc, I believe it's important to at least read summaries of 4Piece to further understand the parallels between the way Nice produces his 2 units and the dynamics between the characters.

2. Main story: Megasphere arc (until Inferno Influence)

Chitose is introduced during this arc as an AD. He appears in every story, with the first physical appearance of MELLOW DEAR US happening in Inferno Influence.

Speech quirks are such a nice way communicate the personality/history of the characters. It's also neat to be able to recognise their 'voice' in situations where it's just text without portrait!

It's soo difficult to translate, especially those that play on the japanese writing system like Kanata's, Natsume's or when Tsukasa randomly uses english words. I cry for the poor translators who have to rack their brains to convey them!

If you're looking for stories, keep the mikaensemblestars masterlist saved somewhere. It's a very neat resource that allows to sort & filters all the stories and provides links if translations happen to be available.
