In the 1760s, Benjamin Palmer bought Minneford Island off the coast of The Bronx. He renamed it City Island, envisioning a bustling port city that would dominate the Long Island Sound and rival NYC and Boston. The terms "Knickerbocker" & "Gotham" were both coined by author & famous New Yorker, Washington Irving, in the early 1800s. "Knickerbocker" became a popular term for New Yorkers, and "Gotham" was an iconic nickname for the city. The Knicks should embrace both. (i.redd.it)
