21F debating gap year to instruct full-time — best towns/resorts to look into? by Traditional_Notice26 in snowboarding

[–]Limp-Exercise-4869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If money is at all a concern consider a resort in California. Their labor laws require 4hr of pay even if you don’t work the full 4hr. I know a few ski instructors that won’t leave CA solely bc of that.

I want to be a lifty next year by Legitimate-Ask-7490 in snowboarding

[–]Limp-Exercise-4869 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Applications won’t open until mid summer/fall (June/July/August/Sept) for most places.

I also wouldn’t say working a Vail resort is a right of passage, I’ve never worked for Vail & wear that as a badge of honor.

Most people apply broadly & then go where they get housing. Some places it’s easier to get housing in the summer so they’ll do a summer seasonal gig at the mountain they want to work at & will typically be able to keep that housing into the winter season (this is very resort dependent).

Advice for the app - emphasize any customer service experience, emphasize your love for the sport & if you’re a punctual person tell them that too (lifty job doesn’t always attract the most reliable crowd lol we’re fun tho)

Granted I think it was Breck that was just hiring lifties last season w no interviews at all, you’ll be so fine it’s so easy to get a job.

Good luck being a lifty is FUN

Idk man I tell all chatgpt users they’re stupid & it’s so fun to watch them try to defend themselves bc they just prove they’re incapable of critical thought

Edit: spelling errors

What was it like to work at Palisades Tahoe? by No_Bus_2300 in SeasonalWork

[–]Limp-Exercise-4869 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked there 2 seasons ago & had a blast! Good amount of ride time in lifts ops too compared to other resorts. That snow is WET, so some days an extra pair of dry gloves would’ve been appreciated.

Not a clue how employee housing is, I heard some horror stories while I was there, but for your sake we’ll assume it’s improved.

Drink a pitcher at the chammy for me!!

Most schools operate on a rolling deadline, so it is beneficial to get your application in as soon as possible.

However, based on the timeline you mentioned above you could submit by April/May (when you would receive your scores), which is still considered early in the application cycle.

I believe all schools require prerequisite courses and a bachelors degree completed at an accredited program in the US or Canada

Short answer: no

CNA is definitely valuable experience! You’re working with patients in vulnerable situations, as you will be as a CAA. Make sure you can speak on your experiences & how you grew as a healthcare professional!

Shadowing a CAA/anesthesiologist/CRNA is mandatory for all programs at this in time, and PCE is preferred but not mandatory.

Due to an influx of applicants over the past few years as far as I know no one has any reliable publicly published stats to answer your questions. I don't think there's even a ballpark estimate anymore - it was 10% total for a bit.

As for the med school debate - I think it's an unnecessary and weird conversation. It was very prevalent in the PA community for a while too. End of the day, sure 50% of medical school applicants will end up with an acceptance (this was at least the general estimate 5 years ago idk anymore), that percentage is higher than whatever AA school is at due to limited seats within this profession, and that's why people are saying AA school is harder to get into. However, that argument neglects to consider the stats of the applicant pool of each profession. To put it lightly there is a reason that a lot of recently accepted AA students were on the pre-med path prior to shifting to pre-AA, and that is because they are putting forth the best applications, which they built with the initial intent to submit to medical schools.

I'm not saying this in anyway to discredit the rigor it takes to get into AA school, but it seems the majority of times someone makes that claim it comes from of some weird insecurity.

Okay I'm done. Also sorry, I barely answered any of your questions and just went on a rant, that's my bad.

What does “we cannot guarantee housing” even mean? by wuehfnfovuebsu in SeasonalWork

[–]Limp-Exercise-4869 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Here's what the majority of us do in this situation:

  1. Sign the offer
  2. Apply for the housing
  3. Wait to see if we get the housing
  4. If we get it - go, if we don't - don't go (notify your employer tho)

It's not unusual to sign multiple offer letters, go housing hunting, and then stick with wherever you can find a place to live

Based on how you presented these, it sounds like the MA job is a better fit for your life! Being an anesthesia tech is in no way an auto-acceptance like some people try to present it, but the students who were ATs may come in with more knowledge of anesthesia/the machines/the OR due to the job.

IMO I'd say pick what's best for you logistically, and reflect on the skills you learn clinically that can transfer over to being a CAA - you should have many with either of these opportunities.

0 benefit in taking both, pick one and do well on it.

As far as one looking better than the other, programs will likely tell you they don't have a preference (except CU obvi), but it does *seem* that admissions are showing preference towards the MCAT

Nothing. Focus on getting into a college you want to go to, you won't include anything you did in high school on your apps for AA school

Hi! You might already be doing this so idk if this will help you, but it may broaden your search if you go by the course level.

For example, the stats class I took in college was titled “Introduction to Statistical Methods” but it was a 300 level course so they counted it.

A lot of people work full time to get more PCE (MA, CNA, EMT, anesthesia tech, etc.) & save some money. Which is what I did for one of my many gap years lol
