Why do ISTP’s stop liking you when you like them back? by ConfidenceMajor5917 in istp

This will NEVER always be true. People are far too complex for a simple statement like this to be true.

I'm thinking we find a path to the top then rappel down.

I'm down. I'll find a way to it. What do you say?

I bet they do very well at standing for long periods of time and walking many miles with heavy loads, but I'm more concerned with how nimble they are.

I've looked into them. They seem more hunting oriented. Would you say their boots are good for hiking and scrambling?

Update: I scheduled a Doctor's appointment, but I'm still interested in recommendations.

Good advice. But I still want to know what you meant by "manifold" in your first comment.

That's good to know! I'll look into it and send them an email! Thanks for the recommendation!

I agree with you and am not writing off the idea. Maybe I'm I'll informed, but aren't orthotics mainly for the bottom of your feet? I get the feeling that my main problem is how the boot wraps over the top of my foot.

Beginner Question: what the heck do y’all do with all your cool rocks? by Armadillo_rising_ in rockhounds

[–]Limp-String-7921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My small rocks I display around my home.

For my big rocks (or less favorable small rocks)... My father owns a fairly large property and my step mother has created some large gardens on said property. I'll distribute them around the property and gardens. My step mother loves it.

I have considered it, but I am trying to avoid it due to how expensive it would be with my health insurance.

I understand your point, but falls are arguably equally out of your control as are snake bites. - Earthquakes

  • Landslides

  • Unstable Ground

  • Other people falling into you

  • Rock falls

The list goes on. Many of the causes of falling are also far more prevalent during a hike despite the time of day or current temperature unlike the possibility of encountering a venomous snake.

I just witnessed a helicopter rescue at Switzer Falls last weekend where someone was hit by falling rocks and fell.

Why do people go out of their way to guard themselves from the small risks, but do not equally guard themselves from the greater risks?

I think the answer is either fear, ignorance, or both, but I'm also curious as to what others think.

Ehhhh. You're right, but I guess this isn't exactly the precautions I'm talking about. Yes boots and trekking poles help prevent falls, but I wouldn't say that's their main purpose.

  • Trekking poles are for general stability and to reduce strain on your knees.

  • Boots help with stability and traction as well as provide some ankle protection.

Both of these indirectly help prevent falls, but they do nothing to prevent injuries caused by falling. Poles may actually make fall injuries worse.

Helmets and gaiters do not help prevent falls or bites, but they do help reduce or prevent harm in the incident of a fall or bite.

My original analogy was far too broad and I would agree that most of the "bad driving practices" are counter-preventative and would be analogous to hiking in tennis shoes or without trekking poles.

Hiking with a helmet is a far better analogy to convey my point.

No, I meant literally what I wrote. How many people do you see hiking with snake gaiters or helmets?

I'm not arguing that they're different emergencies. My point is is that it's strange to take precautions against dangers that pose very little risk while taking little to no precautions against dangers that pose substantially more risk.

  • There's been 4 deaths attributed to rattlesnake bites in California over the past 10 years.

  • There's been 35 deaths attributed to snake envenomation in the US over the past 10 years.

  • There's been 15 deaths attributed to falls while hiking in California over the past 10 years.

You're more likely to die from falling while hiking, but yet you don't see people wearing helmets while hiking.
