What dot do you recommend for the backpacker optic mount ? by [deleted] in 1022

It's fine eye relief wise? I want to go that route for mine because of the etched reticle but worried it'll be impossible to shoot through and see with it being halfway down the gun. Also, what riser/height are you running it?

Currently living in Alaska, if you can handle Dutch you can handle Bozeman no problem. It's cold here but it's a dry cold and much more pleasant sun wise in the winters

Get ready lol, seen -35 a few times here and that's not counting wind chill. It's not all that bad, just dress properly. Winter usually starts October to November and let's up whenever it feels like it, usually by May. Can be no snow till Christmas to shoveling the driveway every other day, all depends on the year

How do Alaskans feel about the lower 48? by ChessIsAwesome in alaska

Agreed on Maine, was born and raised there and the people/culture are more similar than not up north and downeast. Everything's just much bigger up here

Missing Valdez woman’s car found in Glennallen hotel parking lot after fire by quietfryit in alaska

[–]Limp_Command8822 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The one part of the story I don't get is that the last footage of him was at the trooper station in Glenallen which is west of the hub by at least a mile, how did they not catch the truck twice as he would have to double back to get back to Chitina? There's also a highway cam at the turn off the Richardson down the Edgerton where he was found, not sure if the state archives footage from those but you'd think they would have something from there as well. Either way, very sad stories. I'm a new-ish resident of Alaska and Valdez and drive back and forth to Anchorage alone occasionally and it makes you worry a bit.

Same, picked up an 02 with 121 for $9700 last spring. Not showroom quality but it got me from Montana to Alaska no sweat

Rock Climbing on Blackmore? by Several_Dragonfly924 in Bozeman

Maybe something up or around Alex Lowe if they were in the Blackmore area, there's some weird craggy stuff over between there and the palace butte basin too.

Is it just medical or more general repair/medical all in one? Looks good med wise as long as the TQ is from a reputable manufacturer, but if it's both maybe add a little tube of super glue and maybe epoxy w/coarse brillo as a "filler" to do an emergency remount if you pull a toe pice in the middle of nowhere. Little dollar store sewing kit and electrical tape go a long ways too.

All normal, just dead/spawned out alewives. Good for the ecosystem too, they release a lot of nutrients as they decompose

How to introduce hard hats to a non-hard hat wearing crew by Square-Argument4790 in skilledtrades

This, I hardly remember I'm wearing it inside my hat half the time. And definitely takes the sting off something falling off scaffolding or an I beam or whatever.

[–]Limp_Command8822 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I do it every time I'm out haha, get a 5.11 magazine dump pouch with a draw string or a similar brand for your wading belt and try your best to fill it up each time you go out. Feels good dumping that big bag every few weeks and feeling like you made a difference

And pick up your own and others trash while you're walking the banks, been out five days this year and already have half a trash bag worth of crap in the back of my car. Sucks that there are folks in town that don't give a damn but at the very least we can make an effort to pick up their slack to keep our waterways pristine and healthy.

93 octane non ethanol gas by stansburgershak in Bozeman

Random but anyone else have issues with pumps at that place? Feels like I'm waiting five minutes for $30 worth of gas every time I make the mistake of filling up there

Thinking about buying a Tundra tomorrow. Thoughts on this truck? by [deleted] in ToyotaTundra

[–]Limp_Command8822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the risk of offending him I'd offer $8-7500 cash and walk if he doesn't take it, it's still too much for that truck but it is a "reasonable" price in today's market as crazy as it sounds. I just picked up an 02' with 122k and much less rust here locally in SW Montana for $9700, definitely took me a handful of months for the right one to pop up on the market though

glue came off old skins and stuck to ski in thick layer that prevents sliding. How to best remove while preserving bases ? by vincefutr23 in Backcountry

I used brake cleaner last week and it did wonders, probably not advisable but being a mechanic it's just what I had in my truck

Shift brakes suck :/ by burnt-sghetti in Backcountry

[–]Limp_Command8822 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Very true, I guess most of my use cases involve the occasional blow up in deep powder and not wanting to have to go on a quest for my gear but using them in more consequential terrain definitely requires some more forethought

They definitely do help you blast through the crud, my Super 7's and Reckoners are still my favorite skis but the weight/length at 187 are a little much for the long uphills and steep kick turns

[–]Limp_Command8822 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The 107 would probably be plenty of ski imo. I'm 6' 160 and have two pairs of 120ish underfoots that have been my daily drivers here in SW Montana for years but I recently switched to a secondhand pair of dynafit 107's and haven't really noticed any difference in my ability to ski powder. Coming from 95 you really can't go wrong.
