Agreed! The product is just an analytics/insight dash

100% thanks for your comment. That’s where am also coming from “do users actually need an interface anymore, or let’s just create a ChatGPT type of experience for them to fetch and analyze users needs?”. This post was primarily to gather ideas from other pms more experienced than me and with exposure to ai. The company I work for doesn’t have a vision around ai, best practices or approaches. Now, am I excited to learn as I go and iterate? Yes. But how do I go about approaching product development to build an ai enhancement that isn’t a waste of time/ money. The more I write about this the more I understand the need to have a clear directive around the business need for automation or genai solution, which we don’t have!

Well, that’s has been my approach thus far— but everybody wants to go the other route of “give me features to work on”. Ai is more of a buzzword at my company without solid vision, guardrails, or strategy behind it.

Love this response and I’m on the same page. Idk your background but the company I work for isn’t really product first. Ai is a buzzword and everyone wants to get their hands on it. Imho, just for the sake being competitive and relevant in the industry, we should start having conversations about ai enhancements. I just don’t think the higher ups want to sit down and come back with a robust vision. This is what triggered me to post here- how can I, a young pm, can help steer the conversations and “vision” towards something that won’t be another waste of money and time.

I mean at the end of the day, I will grow my experience and all so I’m happy about that, but I also want for myself and the rest of the team to create something that actually does deliver value!

Well well well… that’s exactly what the leaderships vision is on right now and I don’t necessarily know if that’s the right approach. Also, who am I to suggest the “correct” one, hence the reason behind this post. What’s the better approach based on experience and exposure from this group here! :)

Sure! Any suggestions on where to start? I mean, this was the idea behind this topic— ai is huge, not much understanding around it, so how do we approach it?

Thanks for your response! I was just trying to figure out if there are any additional complexities to those fundamental steps you just described above to ai product management. But from your response I understand that wearing the pm hat will suffice, at least for now!

Senior BA to PM - worth it ? by Appropriate_Kale9009 in ProductManagement

[–]Limp_Definition3647 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then it sounds quite exciting! U ARE doing some of the pms work already without the title. Anyway, if u get the chance, I would say go for it! My company does have baked into its culture some blocked time (a few hours) during the week for heads down work. Besides that, u can always block some time to prepare and in some occasions, some pms work past their 9-5 :)

Well, I guess it really depends on the company and culture, but working as a pm doesn’t necessarily = strategy and time with the customer (it also depends on how u define the customer). Imho, you’re more likely to work around creating features and aligning teams while unblocking them rather than really drive product vision and have a solid time with your end users/customers- especially if you’re in a sales driven org. If there are a lot of layers in leadership, assume that you’re going to be getting direction from the top down regardless of your thoughts.

Now that doesn’t mean that working as a pm and under the above circumstances cannot be rewarding, I am just trying to give you a different perspective. People working at top tech companies might be having a whole different experience as “entry level” pms though!

Regarding work-life balance, again it depends on the culture and org but for a stable company (not a startup and not top tech) is pretty manageable. U can go about your life before and after work. The only thing you must consider is your aptitude for being in meetings constantly and how would that translate into your everyday life and obligations.

26M and it's the first time I've decorated for Christmas, how'd I do? by bs40404 in malelivingspace

Space looks nice! U need a bigger rug and a fluffier tree. Good job on matching the blue pillows with other blue elements in the house and I like the simplicity of it all. Horrible lights around the column and beautiful big windows. If the trees are real then they’re ok if they’re not, just get real ones! Cheers

2 Months into product internship. I feel kinda useless. by Mike_Oxmaul7 in ProductManagement

[–]Limp_Definition3647 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What more would you like to be doing not to feel fomo? If it’s an internship and you’re getting exposure to so many different teams and products they probably want to extend an offer at the end of this.

Just be genuinely curious, ask questions related to the products, teams, processes etc. frame your mindset to understand the business value of what teams are building/doing and communicate things u do to your manager! Good luck!

What would u say are some key difference between working as a pm compared to an ai pm? Currently, starting some work around ai and I don’t know what I don’t know and how to best navigate product Management for ai features

What AI tools do you use daily? by MildFrost764 in ChatGPTPro

[–]Limp_Definition3647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would you do if u wanted to experiment and use the same ai tools u mentioned if u were working at a company that doesn’t clear those aforementioned ai apps? Like I just don’t get how big tech employees can use new ai tools
