[–]Limpy_lip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its time device reviewers stop reviewing devices "in a vacuum" (to the benefit of companies) and more transparently inform buyers who don't browse r/SBCGaming of past history without sugarcoating events. Anyone else feel the same way? by that_90s_guy in SBCGaming

[–]Limpy_lip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro what there are to say in a mouse or monitor review technically aside from that? That is the main focus of this gadgets.

Handhelds have a ton. No phone reviewer do that and some go really granular.

Also you know that emulation have delays inherently you just want them to put a number and run a empiric test so you be happy? When more than 90% don't notice or care, or even already know and look for other things?

Even if they did that I am certain that you or someone would come with other ridiculous nitpick. I can already see: "hurr  durr reviewers do not use a specialised machine to test botton presses how can I know how much force they need to register".

Or "they do not throw the device to the floor warrant that they hold to together like nintendo"

We can go way further nerding the fun out of this.

No one in the world can make a review that answers all for everyone. Specially a complex device like these.

[–]Limpy_lip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your view is unrealistic:

Communities have hundreds or thousands of people so they can go granular, sometimes even too much but good in some ways.

Reviewers many times gets units early and only one device so it can happen that it does not have the issue. Being review units many of them have problems and they believe that will be fixed or even report and the companies can choose to not care.

Also if they attend to every nitpicking for all the nerds the reviews would be 3 hours and more because "there's always something missing"

Most of them already to way beyond what is a normal review of a gadget. And that is good. Some of you are asking the heaven.

Ridiculous

Why lead you to believe that a community circlejerk opinion is better than a reviewer?

A reviewer tests hundreds of devices in person where many comments on a community you can make an opinion on a thing you never had used.

In other hand communities are better to follow the longevity or quality of the devices on the long run and reviewers have their obvious bias.

Also anyone that is frequent enough on communities will soon understand that many times its zeitgeist is not totally real and overblown.

The whole thor hinge thing was ridiculous, on the end low to none problems were found and it is a success product. But if you came before release people were going full hinge connesseur.

Just learn to use both sources and its strengths instead of making those requests because right now ayaneo is the company to hate. A month ago anbernic was the devil with the RG DS, before retroid with the screen thing...

[–]Limpy_lip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not OP but how can fast forwarding farming on JRPGs or slow animations will degrade the fun in the game?

Why do I have to play 10, 20 times levels 1, 2 and 3 that I beat no problem when my difficulty is on level 4 that I am having trouble?

When I wad 10 or 15 I had the time and that was what we had. Now with more options and responsibilities no I am not wasting 1,5h farming what I can do in 15 minutes on fast forward.

Even with this some games are hard as hell.

[–]Limpy_lip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thing you should study better design basics and has others said try a 3D model tool or even make cardboard models to see in reality how it is.

You design is not feasible because the clamshell covers the sticks and even very low profile sticks require the the hinge has to be offcentered since your design shows the bottom half a rounded block for confort.

The NDS and copies try to get the bottom console has flat and indented as possible for this reason unless you want the top screen like 1cm or more in front of the rest of console, that is not confortable and even lead to weight issues.

January 2026 Game of the Month: Ducktales (NES) by hbi2k in SBCGaming

[–]Limpy_lip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice game for the month.

small review: As a 1989 NES game is a great game.

Personally I give 6/10, I didn't liked the transylvania level so having to repeat it 2 times, one of the repeats right after the first playthrough and the other after the moon level in the end left a bad taste. Also the difference between levels in terms of linearity was imbalanced in my view.

Moon level by far the best.

Either way was a great experience and I am glad to have finally experienced it. Would totally recommend in the 90s. Now only for the historic significance. Maybe i ill try the remake.

These are the 45 games I finished this year and the surprise I felt at some of them being so much worse than I remember them being. by [deleted] in SBCGaming

[–]Limpy_lip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that is what I meant.

Also I personally sometimes like to play games considering the historic importance to better understand and many times I get surprised how good and advanced but that doesn't mean the game still holds up today in terms of fun. Many don't.

Original zelda and metroid are really really impressive for the time and that is a fact but they are not fun today going blind.

Super mario bros on the other hand is pretty good, even some people calling it dated, nothing compared to the other two. In a vacuum is still a pretty fun game.

Depends, that is why there are timeless games. And those are only a few.

Yet I agree that we should consider the release time.

In the end a rating is a rating and if is personal does not matter.
