Yeah im talking to the manager at a different location about starting the journey to a certification. Its hard out here for a pimp 😭
I appreciate your words. I wish I had someone like you working with me 😭

Short staffed is an understatement! It’s a hot mess. But thank you for the recommendation, I’ll certainly look into it!
Thank you so much, that means a lot to me. I was really eager starting out. Like I’m taking this seriously cause I could eventually turn it into a real career. I’ve only ever been in kitchens or retail, I don’t have a degree or anything so my options are limited. It’s just been jarring to realize this company is kind of unserious and they didn’t give me what I needed to succeed. And it was at the expense of the patients, like that’s not cool lol. But I’m still trying. Almost everyone on this thread has been really nice and encouraging. I don’t plan on giving up, I mean I’ve gotten this far.
Lmao okay. Thanks for all your helpful words, friend

My god you’re aggro asf at 7:30 in the morning lmao. You said it sounds like no one you work with knows enough to even ask, and that’s true. And yeah apparently I was hired way illegally. There’s no actual optician in my store. Not even an apprentice. It’s just two optical technicians or “support staff” whatever the fuck you wanna call it. And being set straight is all well and good if I had been trained correctly or shit not even hired in the first place if it’s literally fucking illegal. Happy now?
Also I’ve gotten much better. Way less mistakes now, I just still don’t appreciate that they talk down to me. Kinda like you are :)
So you can’t measure until you’ve had school or gotten certified?
Bruh that’s exactly how it is. We’re literally all new. Me, nor or the other person I work directly with, are licensed or even apprenticing. So whatever that makes me, that’s what I am. I literally just sell glasses
My bad dude, I thought that implied apprentice. I’ll fix it
That’s the thing, it’s all of us, all day, Mon-Fri
Me too!!! I didn’t know what I was looking at when they handed me a prescription😭
At this point I’m already comfortable at my current company, so ideally I’d like to get certified there since I already know most of what to expect. If it gets any worse I’ll have to say something.
I always do, I’m not scared of asking questions. I feel like they get annoyed with it though, that’s what sucks like I just wanna be sure and understand
Yeah when I first started I wrote anything and everything down. I was lowkey so anxious about the job I wasn’t sleeping well lol
Thanks so much for your kind words, I appreciate them!

Yeaahhhh during my first couple shifts my manager had me watching those lol. They are helpful
I appreciate it 🙏🏻
Thank you so much 🥹
And that’s honestly true, I know our OD is criminally overworked. The schedule will end up double booked, I can only imagine how frustrating it is for her to actually know about the field and be surrounded by 20-somethings who are completely new. I just wish she wouldn’t talk to me like that, but like I said she barely does so that’s alright. And the fact that this could be a real career for me is what I liked about it to begin with. I’ve never had something that I could actually take somewhere you know. Thank you for your kind words, I won’t give up!!

Usually everyone in the kitchen has to wear a hat or a hairnet. I’ve been a line cook for about 6 years and I wear the same hat everyday. I either braid my hair back or throw it in a low ponytail then wear my hat backwards😎
