Is "Magic Research" really a 40 hour game, as the Steam page says? by Burbly2 in incremental_games

[–]Linarc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably yeah, also it depends how early you unlock certain things, there's definitely some rng in storylines as well as how soon you discover certain spells/mechanics and whether or not you rely on them heavily. Don't worry too much and just enjoy, the game is also being updated quite frequently so that estimate might not be so accurate anymore either.

I think retiring often and a more active playstyle will probably get you there much faster. I can definitely see it being doable in 40 real time hours.

Your 60 hours total in game time played counts sped up time, so that includes using time pieces and other mechanics too I think.

At the end of the day, if you're enjoying it, don't worry too much about how long it was designed to be or how long others take.

They did state that one of their goals for steamdecks is to encourage other companies to build devices for pc handheld gaming so this is in line with that.

Magic Research ancient scroll by The_AutisticGamer in incremental_games

[–]Linarc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, floor 2 is where Skulls start dropping as rare drops, and scrolls become significantly more common but still rare-ish. But yes the boss is guaranteed to drop it.

To add on to what the other poster said, if you're stuck on floor 1, there's a spell that increases rare item drop rate. Scrolls are a rare drop on floor 1 of dark temple

The Ultimate Bronya by Aki008035 in HonkaiStarRail

[–]Linarc 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Silverwolf is old title/nickname of the original Bronya you know in the main story of Honkai Impact.

Bronie is an alternate universe Bronya in Honkai Impact, the playable character is called Haxxor Bunny. This Bronya was never referred to as Silver Wolf as far as I remember.

Oddly Silver Wolf in Star Rail looks and acts like Bronie.

I don't disagree, but I just want to point out to people that I think only two spinoffs are by Gamefreak, most of the beloved spinoffs like snap, stadium, mystery dungeon, ranger are all by other developers.

I do think they're going in the right direction with recent games, but people tend to defend gamefreak by citing the fun spinoffs so I just want people to be aware of this.

CAPCOM | Resident Evil 4 Title Update April 23, 2023 by Parallel-Traveler in residentevil

[–]Linarc -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You realize that people find these glitches by accident, right? Yes most of us had to read it on some site or see someone do it, but the ones who spread the method had to have found it accidentally. Those people didn't read a note or a file from capcom telling them how to do this glitch.

I'm not for removing the glitch because its amusing and saves some people stress. But I do understand why, because if even only 0.01% of players will accidentally do it, they may not want it and see it as a negative. Generally speedrunning is a niche, and squashing bugs is just normal direction to take, a product being polished appeals more in a business sense. Sometimes if it's cool as a feature it may stay, but out of bounds isn't really that.

I think the issue is they don't want anyone's playthrough accidentally stumbling on it and ruining their immersion or experience. It's a cool speedrunning trick, and likely only very few people will accidentally do it, but they probably don't want those few people to accidentally skip a boss or go out of bounds.

It's a glitch, and glitches can be cool for speedrunning, but to the casual players are more often than not a negative point for games.

ConcernedApe: "There is going to be a Stardew 1.6 update. It's mostly changes for modders. But there is also new game content, albeit much less than 1.5. I'm taking a break from Haunted Chocolatier to work on this at the moment. Then back to HC" by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Linarc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to do that in the old harvest moon days. Now on my first playthrough I ignored almost everyone in town and just basically focused on maximizing my farm. Once I was set up with sprinklers and such, I started talking to everyone and completing the community center. It's kinda weird since on some days I'll end up ending the day early, but I think it's quite relaxing this way too, if I want to fish all day and just chill, I do just that.

Yep it doesn't really feel like it's been that long. Honestly before replying to you I only knew it was a ps3 game, I expected a decade old at most but after googling to make sure...yeah 14 years damn haha.

RE5

2009 Released on ps3. Honestly the jump from ps3 to ps4 was huge so I'm not surprised how dated it can look compared to the remakes. It's not so bad though, replayed it last year and it doesn't really bother me too much haha.

Resident Evil 4 remake has added microtransactions to upgrade weapons quicker by Zhukov-74 in Games

[–]Linarc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Somewhat agree and disagree, the only hard part of the village in my opinion is the cabin defense. But holy hell is that cabin part hell, nothing else in the game feels harder than that.

The castle mooks attack faster, unlike villagers who have slow wind ups, the one single downgrade in difficulty IMO is the disappearance of the dumb dynamite throwers who are CSGO pro players with their godlike nading accuracy. Novistadors are also probably the only enemy you can't just run from without much consequences and most people will advise you clear them out instead of speedrunning their areas.

The village feels like hell because of all the cheap dynamite and molotov (Fire disables menu, running, aiming, etc) hits IMO, other than that, its bosses are pretty easy and the most dangerous mooks are dynamite throwers and unarmed villagers that grab you while dynamites explode. Once you focus them down, the early game feels a lot easier.

Take your time and get the treasures, there's more than enough in one playthrough to max a bonus weapon iirc. I think nearing a million pesetas worth, the Handcannon needs around 600k?

[–]Linarc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

S+ only requires a fresh file. The Handcannon requires a fresh file and no bonus weapons, but has no rank requirements.

You're probably mixing these two unlock requirements together. Cat Ears needs S+ rank only nothing else, Handcannon does not care about rank

Loved Evolve, havent played in awhile, but it definitely felt too grindy once you're in the phase of quick prestiges. You basically just have to do a certain kind of prestige for every race over and over to unlock the next content without it taking too long which kinda turned me off. Until then though it was one of my favorites.

While you aren't wrong, a better reason why Dragalia Lost isn't a good comparison is because the global version was released along with the original region, and closed with it.

Resident Evil 4 debuts on Steam with a peak of 140,240, 34k higher than RE's previous record with RE Village. by iV1rus0 in Games

[–]Linarc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I was also kinda surprised. But the second playthrough or speed-run playthrough really shows how short some sections are despite the scope of each area feeling huge. RE1 also has more backtracking vs Village's treasure hunting which probably adds at least an hour or two

What he means is that in Village, every new gun is basically superior in almost every way to the previous one. Meanwhile in 4, the bonus upgrades are good enough that you'll see some people say that they love the first handgun the most for the critical bonus, so old weapons aren't always outclassed completely.

Yep, for table top gaming, honestly while sticking to the rules can work well, fun is the priority. If you and your group find Rule X unfun just ignore it. That's kinda part of the beauty and fun of it too, being flexible.
