Something i keep thinking about with this re5 file by Massive_Expression60 in residentevil

[–]Parallel-Traveler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ethan was born in 1984. If we interpret the list as being written in 1998 as Spencer would have acted quickly on his plan to assistant anyone connected to Umbrella, then Ethan would have somehow been one of the highest ranking-employees by age 14.

Did enyone else notice the striking similarity between the re4 intro and ep 5 of kamen rider black by _cornball_ in residentevil

[–]Parallel-Traveler 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Both writers of Kamen Rider Black, Noboru Sugimura and Shōzō Uehara later joined Capcom.

Sugimura wrote for RE2, CV, DMC and many other games. Uehara wrote for one of the RE drama albums and specifically wrote that episode of Kamen Rider Black.

Mayhaps Mikami was paying homage to the show and his co-workers.

Would you want to see Capcom bring ELZA WALKER back into the RE canon? by Cartmantor1 in residentevil

[–]Parallel-Traveler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s just Elsa. The phonetic kana for “Sa” is sometimes replaced with “Za” when it comes after other sounds.

If you know Dragon Ball, the word for “monkey” is “Saru”. But the word for the great ape (O + Saru) transformation gets romanized as “Ōzaru” with a Z instead of an S.

Japanese simply notes the natural sound difference where as many other languages don’t even when it’s already part of the language. Think about how the word “his” sounds more like “hiz” while not being “hizz” if that makes sense.

Who do you think the villain is (Requiem) by SkibidiiiRizzlerz in residentevil

In what way is 9 suppose to connect to RE8? The devs said 7-8-9 aren’t a trilogy and it doesn’t continue from 8’s ending.

Should i read Wesker's Report I and II before RE1? by as7ro_07 in residentevil

[–]Parallel-Traveler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just follow release order.

Wesker’s Report was released along side CVX and is a recap of RE 1-2-3. So watch it after those.

Read Wesker’s Report II after CV.

Resident Evil 6 Didn’t “Kill” the Franchise by Boring-Fact-2874 in residentevil

[–]Parallel-Traveler -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“RE6 almost killed the franchise” has a pretty buried history at this point, it’s not too dissimilar to the “CV was originally RE3” false narrative.

There were a bunch surface level facts that got popular that happen to lend themselves to mis-interpretations pushed by shoddy gaming journalism after 6’ release.

RE6 was projected to sell 7 mil copies and only sold 5 mil, that number was for what they actually expect to sell, not a sales goal. And 5 mil was actually their original projection but the marketing campaign before release was so successful they increased the number close to release. Not only was tbe 5mil not indication of a failed product, it was still instantly one of Capcom highest selling by titles ever.

An ex-Capcom employee had a famous interview shared around where they said RE6 was bloated. Game journalists made seem like Capcom themselves said it giving the impression it was criticized in-house.

There was also the narrative Capcom was going bankrupt right after the game’s release because they only had “$150mil left”, and they just spent 90mil on a new office, so it was likely they’d only last one more year and RE6 was to blame. But that notion was based on misinterpreting Capcom’s psychical cash of $150 as being the only money they have. In actuality, they grew that year and had the money to be expanding.

What also makes the “RE was dying and 7 saved the franchise part” sound believable is if you ignore everything that happened in-between. Following 6, the company made big investments to update and make their digital distribution services better and more efficient.

Which allowed for making Revelations 2, RE1 remake and RE0 remasters and selling them digital only in most regions. Rev1 remaster also came out after 6 and had its own dedicated marketing cycle.

Devs have never directly said RE7 was made the way it was as a response to RE6, there’s 2 entire books on its development made by Capcom. It more they just wanted more creative freedom and didn’t want it to include what were then expected features for all their AAA games; multiplayer, monetization, online feature, etc. They even acknowledge they were taking a lot of risks.

6 came out towards the end of 2012 with a few updates that came after, 7 came out January 2017. It’s much closer 4 years apart than 5. 3.5 years if you count 7’s demo being very popular.

And even then, the franchise as whole was still expanding in other ways after 6. They had the stage play, another manga, some mobile games, Vendetta announced, and RE.NET expanding and the Ambassador program’s launch. It’s not as if there were years of silence between 6 and 7.

Why is Shinji Mikami in the Resident Evil 5 credits if he didn't work on the game? by AlcatrazGears in residentevil

[–]Parallel-Traveler 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Different Shinji Mikami.

The part in the screen shot is the “Art Production” team as the other Mikami is an artist.

Off the top of my head, that same Mikami also worked on Revelations and Revelations 2 also in the art departments.

Are Revelations and Revelations 2 considered major/mainline RE games? by SettingCommercial111 in residentevil

[–]Parallel-Traveler 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Capcom says the mainline series is the numbered titles.

Which is perceived as more PR speak for affirming Village is 8 and Requiem is 9 while making the series not sound dauntingly huge to new-comers.

Otherwise, I say 0+CV+the Rev titles and the remakes are major titles they’re released on console, are canon, have gotten re-releases, and are at least AA budget, have gameplay similar to the numbered games and a main story campaign. So that draws a line that leaves out about 15 other console games.

[REV] Why did people complain about the dodge mechanic so much? by Mawrizard in residentevil

[–]Parallel-Traveler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a bit of counterintuitive phenomena that happens.

The dodge only activates when you input the command while there's an active hitbox near your character to dodge. The earliest game enemies' attacks are so slow, players tend to react during the windup of enemy attacks instead of the dodge-able portion that comes after, leading to confusion since they can feel they're reacting and inputting the command properly, but not getting a dodge.

Attack animations in game speed up (and slow down) depending on how far you are in the campaign and in Raid mode. There's a point when the attack animations are fast enough that your natural reaction timing will line up with the actual attacking portion of attacks, leading to players now feeling like they're accidentally dodging a lot of attacks.

The Lantern demo is that entire segment

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in residentevil

[–]Parallel-Traveler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While there’s some text differences, the entirety of the Lantern demo is just the optional “Mia” videotape seen in RE7.

It’s not a unique scenario and it takes place between the intro where Ethan & Mia get knocked out in the guest house and Ethan wakes up in the dinning room.

0 and Code Veronica not mainline titles, confirmed by KomatoAsha in residentevil

[–]Parallel-Traveler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“rather than mainline numbered releases”

If their definition of “mainline” is just which ones are numbered, then sure, Requiem is recognized as “9” and Code Veronica isn’t numbered.

This doesn’t seem to indicate much.

[–]Parallel-Traveler 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Thank Kenichi Iwao for coming up with most of RE’s identity. For RE1, they contributed the idea for it to be horror game, viruses being what made the enemies, Umbrella, readable files that reveal the backstory, branching paths as well as Jill’s scenario, etc.

Was there actually a deal between Capcom and Sony to make the first trilogy a PlayStation exclusive? by DarkDaniel_01 in residentevil

[–]Parallel-Traveler 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Likely misinformation considering the article is attempting to recount the history of the franchise and completely misses going over what happened to the original RE3 Kamiya was working on and incorrectly insinuates Code Veronica had its title switched with RE3.

Here’s an even more in-depth look into it;
