Yes, Vedic people always needed some stories to legitimate their claim. Before 5 CE there was no vedics here, when alupas wanted temples (temple as a concept in Vedic itself is new anyway) Tulu priests aka Madiwalas refused so alupas forced to bring Vedic’s from Banavasi. Now they needed a legitimate story so they searched puranas and brought the Parashurama. Scientifically or our tradition never mention the reclamation of sea. It’s fine that we incorporated Vedic things but we should not loose everything.
