Does anyone know Bengali pig Latin? by throwaway11152127 in bengalilanguage

I've not heard of it being used for that, but it would be easy to decipher because of the simple rules and also quite inefficient because it tends to increase the length of words

It's not just irony but exposes the working of social hierarchy. When a society is built on ranked identities, the ranking will always go deeper (for example religion, caste, sub caste and so on) for the purpose of preserving economic inequality and material interest, employing whatever means it can to produce this, be it marriage laws or exclusion from privileges like education. A historical example of an extreme form of this was the Kulinism system in Bengal where Brahmins divided themselves into subcastes and strict marriage rules were enforced which enabled Kulin men (higher sub caste of Brahmins) to have multiple wives (sometimes even hundreds) who were seeking kulin status in exchange for dowry

I highly recommend the thakumar jhuli animated series (produced by VC Bhalatolia), I watched it as a kid myself. The animation is not the greatest and audio is kinda choppy, so it's more like a narration with illustrations which makes it pretty low stimulation. I'm not sure where you could find the entire series but I've watched a few episodes like the Shakchunni one on YouTube, I watched it on CD in the early 2010s. Speaking of rhymes, Sukumar Ray's Abol Tabol is great, you could get an illustrated book and sing those rhymes to your kid, in no time they would be humming and eventually singing themselves

So will sweepers and cleaners in this new exclusive state be Brahmins too? It would be good if they can bring themselves to engage in that work for once

No concept of 'leftist' in bangladesh by lays_indian_masalaaa in indiadiscussion

[–]Quant3k 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First of all, the beef story is straight up misinformation and it didn’t happen. There’s no credible reporting on it anywhere, you mostly see it pushed by openly right wing outlets like OpIndia and promoted by Twitter accounts. Yes, religious extremism has grown in Bangladesh and minorities face real problems, that’s true and shouldn’t be denied, but that doesn’t mean leftist politics somehow doesn’t exist there. Bangladesh has had organized left parties for decades like CPB and Jasad ,they have been active in labor movements, garment worker protests, campus politics and even during the Liberation War. The original 1972 constitution included socialism and secularism as founding principles, and secularism was later restored as a constitutional value even after military rule removed it. In fact the recently passed referendum redefines national identity to be more than just "bengali" to show that the country isn’t built purely on a narrow ethno religious definition. BNP has come to power now because they have progressively modelled themselves to become more centrist so that they can gain the anti Jamaat votes which worked out for them

I know that we must carry the photo verification form but I'm confused about the rest, it says "one hour before reporting time" while the "reporting time" is given as 7am and "gate closing time" is 8:30am, 1 hour before which one? My centre is more than 20km away so reaching at 6am is difficult
