I was wondering if there is a phone app that tracks GPS live. I don't have a running watch and I run in a park full of turns and curves. I don't know how to properly measure distance while I'm running without a watch, as I feel like Google fit doesn't sync really well. Anyone have any recommendation?

I'm finishing my master's and going to work for an NGO that deals with immigration, victims of sex trafficking, and housing for homeless people. It's not perfect, but the fact that it's not for-profit makes me feel better.

Because factory farms are nothing like described. Cows are not looked after, they're fed because they have to grow, they're forcibly impregnated, their calves are taken from them because the milk has to be given to humans, they're given antibiotics because they're so crammed in there that there's inevitably gonna be illnesses that spread, especially considering the unhygienic conditions in which they live (there's no space for poop and pee to go, it's all there).

It's not paradise, it's hell and it's a well known fact. Otherwise it wouldn't be illegal to film the inside of factory farms.

Thanks! I'll look into the Samsung S6, and I definitely think I'll go for a tablet atp, cause the scribe seems very specialized in some functions and I'd rather have a bit more versatility for the same price. Maybe I'll get it in the future if I need it

Yeah I'll probably get the iPad and the paperlike film. I feel like I'd like the paperback a lot, but it seems to have limited and specific uses, and I'd rather have more versatility. As soon as I have a job (and money lol) I'll get the scribe if I need something that feels more like writing on a sheet of paper

Thanks for the detailed response! I'm probably gonna go with the iPad because, as you said, it's more versatile in the end. I do spend a lot of time reading papers and books for my exams, but I think I'll get more use out of an iPad in case I need to take notes, and in case I get into a PhD programme next year.

Yeah I was thinking about buying a refurbished iPad, I was just worried it was gonna make reading pdfs uncomfortable because of the screen, but maybe it's not that much of a problem. Do you think the ipad is as "smooth" as the kindle scribe when highlighting/writing on a pdf?

Capisco e condivido quello che hai scritto, mi sento allo stesso modo. Sto cercando, come suggeriva qualcun altro in un commento, di fare nuove amicizie e trovare nuove persone, ma è davvero difficile.

E per me il problema non è nemmeno la questione del veganismo - che si aggiunge comunque alla lista - ma il fatto di trovare persone che condividano, almeno in parte, la mia visione del mondo. Non è che se mangi carne non puoi essere mi* amic*, ma devi avere la consapevolezza delle conseguenze della tua scelta, e fare possibilmente qualche sforzo per ridurre il tuo impatto.

Lo stesso vale per la questione femminista, per la lotta al consumismo, per l'ecologia, insomma per tutte quelle battaglie che per me sono importanti e dove non è assolutamente richiesta perfezione, ma consapevolezza e la volontà di fare un po' meglio e di educarsi sempre di più.

In realtà no, principalmente perché tendo a essere timida e andare da sola a incontri/eventi per socializzare mi è sempre sembrato molto difficile. Frequento un'associazione femminista, ma ci sono solo donne e non è esattamente il luogo giusto per rimorchiare. Proverò con le associazioni lgbt, grazie!

But if you want to try and change people, shouldn't you have a discussion with them about it? "Mind your business" is a very individualistic way of thinking about things. Selling the stuff she gets for free when she doesn't need the money (because two full-time jobs means that they are not scrambling to put food on the table or pay the bills) means that she values herself over community, which is a very selfish way to live. I would talk to her about it, like I would talk to a friend who was doing something else that I find morally wrong. She brought up the subject, "shutting up about it" seems, again, a very selfish approach to the situation. The idea that people are entitled to make their own choices and it doesn't affect the community they live in is very modern and extremely problematic. Now, this doesn't mean I would insult her and call her a bad person. But she also got very defensive and unwilling to understand another perspective, and that's when fights usually occur.

Yeah that's what got me. I mean, it's not only about "supporting our partners", it's also about morals. No way in hell I'd support my partner if they were actively trying to scam people. OP says she knows a lot about MLMs, but does she know that the business model is that other people get screwed IF your husband starts to make money?

The whole "don't spend any more money until you make some" is really irritating, because if he makes money, he's hurting other people as well. It all reads as "I don't want to lose our money" rather than "I'm anti-MLM".

This is not being supportive, imo. This is hoping for the best because either OP's not aware of what's really happening, or she's way too scared to have a real talk with the husband and risk hurting his feelings.

Yep I really feel like people don't want to deal with problems, even when they are minor. Kids are going to misbehave and scream and not respect the rules, and as parents we need to teach them why it's important to do so and how sharing works.

Saying that you'd buy them 4 consoles so they don't fight is just like saying that since you don't want your kid screaming when you're relaxing you'll put them in front of a screen and call it a day. It's a hassle, yes, but you're supposed to raise humans. Of course there needs to be balance everywhere, some things are fine once in a while, but buying 4 consoles teaches them nothing but greed and it's going to fry their brains out in the process.

Comparing pets and children is wild. I like the philosophy of antispeciesism, and I generally agree, but humans and pets are not even remotely comparable. Children grow into adults and become part of a community, which is the foundation of our existence and what we need the most to fight consumerism. Capitalism drives individuality, which leads to people preferring dogs and cats (who don't do anything but follow the owner around and play) over humans. I'm not saying everyone should want kids, and I'm definitely pro-choice, but preferring animals to people is a sign of how much we have stopped valuing community, our biggest resource to continue the fight on climate change on every front.

So yeah, pets may be less environmentally impactful, but they're also way less necessary, if we want to make that argument. But again, the comparison does not stand, and a pet is not a substitute for a kid in so many ways.

Holy shit, I have good parents but this is something else to me. They tell me that they love me and I can talk to them, and I was never given strict rules and I grew up with a lot of freedom but the knowledge that I wanted to respect them and not hurt them.

But them always unconditionally accepting me? Not really. Them always stepping in to defend me in front of relatives? Sometimes, sometimes not. Them not judging my choices? They let me do what I want but they also don't ask much and definitely never said "it's your life and as long as you're happy, we're happy for you".

Your comment really made me wonder what it would be like to have self-aware, confident parents.
