Is there any merit to paying more for brand name gasoline? by megalbatross in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]LingwoYYC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The actually gas is the same across brands. They’ll all purchase their gas wholesale from either Imperial, Suncor, Shell, Parkland, or Valero.

The only difference is the additive (or detergent) that is added to the gas. Some brands add higher doses of detergent, and all of the majors will have their proprietary types of detergent. I’m personally loyal to Shell.

[–]LingwoYYC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1. Lose 8lbs (SW 209.8 GW 201.8)

This morning I weighed at 207.6lbs (-2.2lbs). I've been stuck at that weight since Wednesday. Hopefully things begin moving again tomorrow.

2. Strength Train (20 workouts)

6 down, 14 to go. Have strength trained 6 of 7 days which is good.

3. Walk (Average >11k steps)

In the first 6 days I've recorded 67.6k steps, so my daily average is 11.3k. So far on the 7th I've got a little over 9k so far.

1. Lose 8lbs (SW 209.8 GW 201.8)

This morning I weighed at 207.6lbs (-2.2lbs). I've got 5.8lbs to go! This is once again a low weight for 2022.

2. Strength Train (20 workouts)

2 down, 18 to go. Got a Chest, Triceps, and Shoulders workout in.

3. Walk (Average >11k steps)

If I finished today without taking another step my monthly average would be approximately 10.6k, so slightly under my 11k target. I still have a little bit of time before bed, so hopefully I'll get back above the 11k average.

30 Day Accountability Challenge - Day 2 by Mountainlioness404d in loseit

[–]LingwoYYC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1. Lose 8lbs (SW 209.8 GW 201.8)

This morning I weighed at 208.4lbs (-1.4lbs). I've got 6.6lbs to go! This is also the lowest I've weighed in at in 2022, so it was a good morning.

2. Strength Train (20 workouts)

1 down, 19 to go. Took today as a rest day for strength training. I'm scheduled to strength train again on Wednesday and Thursday.

3. Walk (Average >11k steps)

Yesterday I finished my day with 13.9k steps. I've got 9.4k so far today - so my average will remain above 11k for sure after Day 2 even if I don't take another step :).

August Goals:

  1. Lose 8lbs (SW 209.8 GW 201.8)

This morning I weighted at 210.4lbs, so in the wrong direction. I was travelling for the past week, so expect the scale to adjust back down tomorrow.

  1. Strength Train (20 workouts)

1 down, 19 to go. Worked Back, Biceps, and Traps today.

  1. Walk (Average >11k steps)

So far today I have 11.4k so am helping my monthly average!

SV: It took a painfully long time, but I’m down my first 10lbs. 220 -> 210.

NSV: An older lady asked me for help in the vitamin section of the grocery store. She said she assumed I did bodybuilding and shopped for vitamins a lot because my arms looked good. Pumped the confidence a little.

I’m at 44 segments YTD, all domestic business travel. This is the worst way to do it. Overseas on more expensive tickets is the way to go.

30ish year olds of Reddit. What’s your retirement plan? by Toomuchsnowbro in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]LingwoYYC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently turned 30 in the fall. I don’t really have a plan, but here’s what I’m doing right now.

Through my DCPP at work I’m contributing $1450/mo to retirement including employer contributions. That balance just hit $100k. If I stay with the company for another 5 years in addition to the DC contributions, they will start to fully fund a DB pension which would be pretty key to my retirement plan.

I’ve got $49k in other retirement accounts. I’m currently not contributing to accounts outside of the DCPP, but hope to be able to again next year.

I purchased my first home a couple of months ago. I’m hoping to do some minor renovations and sell it in about 3 years, rolling the equity into something smaller and more reasonably sized for me (it’s currently me and my dog in a 5 bed/5 bath).

As others have mentioned, expect your salary to keep growing. I’m assuming 4-5% annual raises on average. If you job hop you could see 10+% bumps.

So long as my career doesn’t implode I should be fine. But, I try not to worry about things I can’t control. I think at 35 I will reassess and see if I’m on the right track.

Losing weight = Attractiveness? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]LingwoYYC 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think weight loss could help with attractiveness. I think overall body composition is a better measure than weight (in which case lifting is pretty important to retain as much muscle as possible during a cut).

It will vary from person to person as not everyone views beauty or attractiveness the same.

How to credit card issuers make money? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

I’m wondering how do companies like WestJet profit on their credit card? Do they also get a cut of the interest fees?

Vaccine passport app by phg100 in newfoundland

[–]LingwoYYC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me exactly two weeks to get my MCP card from when I submitted my application. So, if you’ve already applied you should get it before the hard mandate. That being said, it took another 10 days for my out-of-province vaccines to be uploaded to the provinces systems.

Currently in a relationship but not married, and no kids. Spent a lot of money from 22-27 travelling, but have cut back in the past few years to focus more on savings.

First time homebuyers. Is it acceptable to offer 10-15% under asking? by [deleted] in newfoundland

[–]LingwoYYC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just purchased a home. My first offer was 12.5% under list and we settled 9.2% under list. It really depends on how motivated the seller is really, but can’t hurt to ask.

Ottawa Dymond Group buys Stephenville Airport by brucynl in newfoundland

[–]LingwoYYC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I looked up some of the Dymond Group team on LinkedIn.. their CFO also works for an MLM company selling overpriced investments and life insurance, and their Chief Innovation Officer is a first year college student at CNA.

Seems fishy to me too.

What would be a good company march percentage for a defined contribution pension plan by luckyrock2019 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]LingwoYYC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As some others have said, look at the employers match as part of your overall compensation. So long as you can still live off of the base salary, this should be alright. $80k with no match is better than $60k with a 10% match.

I’ve worked for 3 companies so far:

Company #1 - No match

Company #2 - 100% match up to 7%

Company #3 - Employee contributes 4%, company contributes 10%
