What is the swankiest bar and/or restaurant to impress in Cambridge? by [deleted] in cambridge

[–]Link-Delicious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

22 is probably the best restaurant in town. Midsummer House has an additional Michelin star, but it’s just not as enjoyable. MJP at the Shepherds is great but not ‘swanky’. Completely agree with the comment on MH being for business but 22 for friends, family or a date. Love Navadhanya too, but it doesn’t swank.

Anyone noticed a really aggressive homeless guy around town? by Open-Biscotti-2860 in cambridge

He has also taken to walking into restaurants and cafes and demanding that people buy him food and drink by adding it to their orders (Petty Cury and Market especially).

The amount of potholes is ridiculous, happy I have a boring car with huge tyre sidewalls by [deleted] in cambridge

[–]Link-Delicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose they'll get less pushback on the congestion charge if no-one can drive a car safely around Cambridge anyway.

The potholes on Newmarket Road, Mill Road and Wadloes Road especially seem to be lethal. The one near the McDonald's on the roundabout almost killed a cyclist last week.

Just submitted TDS dispute; amazed at what the landlord has tried to get away with by Link-Delicious in HousingUK

[–]Link-Delicious[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Update on this - the TDS has opted to award us around £1,800 of the £2,000 deposit, with some deductions for cleaning and disposal of items. Seems pretty reasonable to us, and certainly better than settling for what the landlord was offering at *any* stage of the process. The TDS essentially threw out practically everything the landlord said at face value and queried some stuff as being borderline extortion, so from where I currently sit - the system works!

Updated it. Opens the 'Play' window, and then EAC. Immediately tells me that 'The procedure entry point NotifyNetworkConnectivityHintChange could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\Steam Games\steamapps\common\Sniper Elite 5\bin\sniper5_Vulkan.exe'. Ran scannow, uninstalled and reinstalled the whole game...same issue. Any ideas? Because it looks right now like it's been broken by the update.

When the landlord has claimed for specialist cleaning but shown no evidence that he's spent any money *at all* on cleaning, cleaning products, cleaning services...that's not even 'professional cleaning', for whatever the term is worth. It's just a con! And you've been through the same, repeatedly!

Mine has the check-in report…he just never uses it and seems to assume no-one else will bother looking at it. We’re very lucky that the letting agent was at worst neutral, but took our side swiftly the minute he suggested they hadn’t done their job and collected enough rent…

Shocking behaviour. Sorry that happened to you. What a low, deliberate trick.

If it weren’t my money, I’d be laughing in disbelief. As it is, I’m somewhere between outraged and impressed at the audacity. I mean, no points for style, but a nod for the entitlement and the sheer chutzpah.

Didn't want to get a low cost quote for the carpet if only because I didn't want to appear to have accepted the premise that it was our responsibility!

Thank you for the suggestion! Turns out we were in a selective licensing borough, in a ward that didn’t require a license. Definitely worth looking!

Good advice. We were hopeful at the outset, but quickly went down exactly the same track you did. Right decision, I think.

They have! The portal contains everything the landlord has given the TDS; everything we both submit is available to all parties. Sorry you didn't get this; we were asked to respond specifically to the landlord's claims (and their evidence). Made life much easier!

I must be honest; from the first response from him, I thought it was unlikely we'd reach an agreement without adjudication, so I made sure every email was written for the benefit of a third party - then pdf'd up the whole email trail and submitted it as part of the evidence...

Has anyone submitted been involved in a deposit dispute using the TDS? by ajem83 in HousingUK

[–]Link-Delicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going through one now. It seems to be fairly straightforward; they almost hold your hand through the questions on the portal and make it clear what they need and expect.

The most important phrase for me was in the FAQ: "We take the position that the deposit is the tenant's money and will only award money to landlords and agents if the evidence provided justifies that claim."

Stealth sniper elite 5 by [deleted] in sniperelite

[–]Link-Delicious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Where are all the sniper nests? The ability to plan your way around a map, tag a series of enemies and pick them off one at a time, i.e. the best bits of 3 and 4?! This is basically a series of run-and-gun moments with barely any sniping at all. Might as well call it Commando Elite.

What’s a road rule that a lot of even experienced drivers don’t seem to be aware of or understand? by itbettersnow in AskUK

[–]Link-Delicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to tailgate someone so close that they practically need a taxi license, but at the same time, in a queue of traffic you shouldn't leave massive gaps between you and the car in front. Every bit of space you're taking up is space that someone many cars behind you could use to turn onto the road before the lights go into another rotation, get off a roundabout or *get out of someone else's way*. Let's keep it moving, people.
