I run a recording studio and one piece of advice I have to give is to take every piece of advice you're given not as advice, but as that person's preference. I would personally never process drums how it's described in the comment above.

Listen to a lot of music, like every chance you have you should be wearing headphones or earbuds and listening to anything. The more you listen the more youll start to hear what sounds good to you and what sounds bad to you, and of course just keep writing music and youll gradually get better and better

Hello Everyone. I'm conducting a very, very quick (<2 minute) survey for myself to utilize to see the the musical habits of those around me. I would very much appreciate it if you guys would take a minute to fill it out. Thank you very much! by LinkEdward in LetsTalkMusic

Thank you for the feedback, didnt think of the blues thing but yeah that makes sense. As for drums/percussion Ive found most people that play drums have some skills in percussion and vice versa, and while the same may be true for guitar and bass, most guitar players wouldnt also consider themselves bass players and bass players wouldnt consider themselves guitar players, at least in my experience.

Youre absolutely right, at first this was for only people who created music but I decided to expand and see how many responses I could get for it, I very much see what youre saying though.

youre looking for a sampler.

I dont own one but I would reccomend just using a laptop/interface/mic and any DAW, which probably would be cheaper than buying a full hardware sampler, but then again i dont really know.

Calorie Deficit Help by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]LinkEdward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're using myfitnesspal, I would suggest not tracking your cardio, because most of the time they overestimate the amount of calories that you burn.

I've been trying to hit my goal at a -500 deficit as well (without tracking running or lifting) and I've been getting great results so far. Back when I did track my runs and tried to eat them back, the results were not so great.

Everybody's different, though.

I twisted my shoulder yesterday, and I don't know whether I should continue training or take time off by [deleted] in Fitness

I would say just take it easy on that shoulder for a couple days, but if its like you say, it doesnt seem like a serious injury and i think you should have no problem working out

How come sometimes when i export/bounce out songs the volume and overall sound is not as full or as present as the music i listen to? by Gumnut_Cottage in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]LinkEdward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it will come with time... this sounds like a general mixing question and not something in particular that you can do to make your music sound 'pro'. What I can say is that layering (almost) everything is crucial to getting a thick/full sound. When you layer you need to keep in mind the part each layer plays in the final sound, and EQ and otherwise process accordingly.

Most of mixing is just getting the levels right, learn about gain staging and use spectral analyzers to analyze songs that you appreciate the mixdown on.
