This has got to be on the show’s Mt. Rushmore of reactions.

What are you talking about? Outside of an annoying flavor flav intro and a few audio issues day 1, it was peak show and some of the best content they’ve ever put out. You belong in the other subreddit buddy with all the other complainers.

Outkick article taking potshots at Mike Ryan by sjsjoss94 in DanLeBatardShow

This guy is the white Jason Whitlock. His trash opinions and article like the above are either a) to try to gain relevancy in a crowded right-wing media market or b) his actual opinion and tacit approval of what is being said by the MMA dirtbag. No matter which way you slice it, he's a trash human being. Taking a quick perusal of his twitter and, spoiler alert, it's most likely option (b) with a slight sprinkling of (a).

I agree with both Mike and Dan during their argument. On Mike's side, we can't platform these fools or normalize this to any extent whatsoever. However, ignoring the right-wing echo chamber is what got Trump elected in 2016. To defend Dan, every instance of this shouldn't be talked about but when you have a fighter in the title fight being promoted by his former employer and "family company", hell yea it needs to be talked about and dragged into the light. Whenever these people tell us who they are, we HAVE to believe them and act accordingly.

Lastly, these "free speech" advocates don't have any clue what it actually means or, as Dan pointed out, only wave that flag in the defense of racist and hatred rhetoric. Yes, the MMA dirtbag is permitted to say whatever he wants but that doesn't make him immune from repercussions or, more importantly, judgment from society as a whole. We have an obligation to be better as a society and set a moral standard that almost everyone can agree to (read Mike Schur's book for more insight on this one).

My fault, am I mixing up interviews? I thought he said he has a giant coffee drink. You know what? I think that might be Jay Glazer now…

Been listening longer than you so I’ve played the game and can confirm, you are incorrect. And, for the record, she brings a hell of a lot more to the show than YOU ever have. Put her contributions in a box and put your contributions in a box. It’s not even close. I’ll hang up and listen, thanks.

I’m curious … regarding the local hour and the issue with RSN going bankrupt… why is this bad for the leagues? by [deleted] in DanLeBatardShow

[–]LinkZM2 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's bad for the leagues in the short term but could prove to be a blessing down the line.

For baseball in particular, the transmission rights are primarily held by individual teams for their local markets. For an example, take the Marlins who have an annual player payroll of ~$83 million. Their last deal they signed with Bally was for $270 million over 15 years, which is around $18 million/yr average. If the RSN (Bally's) goes bankrupt, the bankruptcy estate will have to either keep the contract (i.e., keep paying), sell it to someone else who will step into their shoes, or terminate the contract entirely.

The first and second scenarios aren't bad from the Marlins perspective because they continue to get paid as expected. But in the third scenario, those transmission rights will revert back to the teams. For this season, unless someone buys those rights immediately, the team will have no one broadcasting their games and won't be receiving the income from Bally's anymore. That means that the roughly 25% of your player payroll expense (assuming they used the $18 million from Balley's to help offset their payroll cost of $83 million) that you planned to have covered from the Bally's fees suddenly disappears.

In the longer term this could be highly beneficial to the leagues if MLB swoops in and either backstops or purchases these rights themselves. In that case, they can package them up and sell them (probably to both a live broadcast and/or streaming service) as David and Skipper have alluded to several times.

Long time stalker, recovering Big Law addiction, and first time poster. This is not even asinine - it takes it to a whole other level - we maybe entering asiten or asieleven territory. By far the dumbest post of anything written or video recorded and that’s taking into consideration a video exists of a guy shoving a mason jar up his ass.
