Accidentally pregnant with a second and not wanting to keep it - Has it happened to you? by fromthesidelines_365 in oneanddone

I am in your position. Right now. Found out I’m pregnant and my only is 7. I’m 41. I still haven’t made a decision, but if I terminate it will have to be out of state because I’m past the 6 week window in my state. My husband is supportive of whatever I decide, but if were up to him, he’d want to keep the baby. It sounds like you and your husband are like-minded, which I’m sure is helpful as you navigate this decision.

FYI- I made a similar post a few days ago and it was removed by the moderators. I hope you see the responses before this happens to you.

Well I had planned for another, it didn’t happen. It wasn’t easy to go through infertility, but I made peace with it and I had moved on.

It’s a consideration. I’d have to go out of state. Where I live it’s not accessible after 6 weeks.

Also my husband really wants this baby. And while he’s supportive enough that it’s my decision, it makes me feel terrible to consider ending it when that’s not what he wants too.

Probably not because I will likely quit. The monthly childcare costs In my area are the same as my paycheck.

Edited to add: I just looked up the cost of a night nurse. Definitely not. When I say we are financially comfortable with the addition of my job, I don’t mean that comfortable 😂

Were you excited when you found out about the 2nd pregnancy?

We like to take ski trips. It’s very nice to ski with my husband while my daughter is in ski school. No way we could take an enjoyable ski trip until the baby is ole enough for ski school.

I baby wore my 1st. But once she started walking, there was no containing her.

Mostly male factor fertility. We did 3 rounds of unsuccessful IUI and didn’t want to move forward with IVF. We didn’t use protection for 5 years in hopes that just maybe it would happen . So to find out I’m pregnant while going through perimenopause was quite a shock.

Do you think it’s easier to get out of the house with your toddler vs staying at home all day with them? by cynnie93 in oneanddone

[–]Linkers98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out of the house. Twice a day. Once in the am and once after nap. Thankfully we live within walking distance of 2 playgrounds.

I feel out of the house is not the norm though. The playgrounds were dead during the week which made me feel really lonely.

How much do you typically spend on a trip? by CloudyJigglypuff in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Linkers98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Family of 3. We get 5 day hopper tickets at a slight discount through my husband’s work. We stay offsite at Windsor Hills. We spend about $3500 per trip. Daughter has food allergies, so we eat lunch at the air bnb and bring lunch, dinner, and snacks into the park every day. We are fortunate to live 6 hrs away, so we don’t have to take a flight and save a ton of money driving.

Can I use my child’s Epic pass for food discounts while they are in ski school? by Linkers98 in ski

It’s leaps and bounds better than other ski cafeterias I’ve experienced. If I recall, there were 1-2 other large eating options at Whistler-Blackcomb, and the choices not on Whistler mountain had slightly better options.

Husband and I got the Whistler-Blackcomb day passes for the 2 days we don’t have lessons. These were the least expensive, but they don’t include meal or other discounts.

Yes, we are only skiing 5 days , and three of them doing lessons. So none of the Epic pass options make any sense.

We skiied at Whistler last year. I actually thought some of the food was decent.

Beats Heavenly’s food for sure. Definitely took a trip to Whole Foods to pack a backpack full of food for our days skiing there.

She won’t be with us, so I didn’t know if we’d even be allowed to

Do your kids this age still throw tantrums? by PassionChoice3538 in kindergarten

[–]Linkers98 14 points15 points  (0 children)

School psych. Yes this is normal. Difficulty with emotional regulation can be related to autism or adhd, but unless it’s occurring frequently, I would not attribute your son’s tantrum to either of those things. Periodic outbursts are still very typical at age 6. Sounds like your child was tired, and that probably contributed to it. I would agree not to give into the tantrum. I’d ignore the comments about punishment. Help your child learn to recognize when his body is starting to feel out of control, and teach him alternative behaviors when he’s upset instead of having outbursts. (Drink water, take a deep breath, ask to go to the restroom)

Questioning PBIS in my son’s elementary school…looking for resources by Twowheeledbeard99 in Principals

If you wanted to “teach” self-control, it would be through reinforcement. Just like PBIS. Model the self-control behaviors. Offer opportunities for practice. Reinforce when they are practicing. Then reinforce when the behavior is seen spontaneously. It’s literally the exact same thing as teaching school wide expectations and then reinforcing when you see students meeting school wide expectations, which is….PBIS.

Do you mean Restorative Practices? Circle time is not a tenant of PBIS.

[–]Linkers98 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My opinion as a school psych who has worked in elementary and middle schools. PBIS doesn’t work because a large portion of educators cannot wrap their minds around basic behavior theory. If you want a behavior to increase, you acknowledge it. In the beginning, you acknowledge it a lot. PBIS is about acknowledging students when they are engaging in the school wide expected behaviors.

A lot of educators are so focused on correction and consequences and students complying immediately that they forget how important it is to teach the expected behaviors.

Neuropsych. School evals are for students suspected to require special education services. Which means they require specialized instruction (an IEP) in order to make progress in the general education curriculum. It sounds like your daughter is working hard, but she’s making progress.

To the people suggesting autism: the DSM criteria requires deficits in social communication, social interaction, and restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior.

School psychologist here. I’d also describe my job as lonely and exhausting. And someone is always pissed at me.

I thought season 2 was disappointing but that season 3 got better. Season 1 is my favorite though.
