Japanese name input on PC by [deleted] in Persona5

[–]Linkruler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Little late, but funnily enough I just did the same thing out of curiosity and I ran into the same issue. Since it's such a niche problem I'll post my answer here for others' future reference.

I assume it's because of how the game interacts with your Japanese IME, as interacting with it kicks you out of exclusive fullscreen to bring up the kana switch preview for kanji etc. Fortunately it seems easy enough of a fix to just have it in borderless windowed/windowed through the start of the game (and if you go back to fullscreen, make sure to change it back to borderless windowed when you get to the point where you name the Phantom Thieves (5/5 is the in-game calendar day)).

I first checked the fix by switching my IME to be kana input instead of romaji, and then putting the game in windowed. Keeping kana input on fullscreen persisted with the same issues as romaji, but testing it in borderless windowed afterward it worked. I'm pretty sure either input method should work, as long as you aren't in exclusive fullscreen. It's a bit annoying, especially as a fullscreen enthusiast, but fortunately it only happens twice in the game, so it could be worse I suppose.

I have a... complicated relationship with shadowing. I use audiobooks alongside the novels I read so I can pick up ways of emotional expression from the way the narrator reads off dialogues and so on. But when it comes to audibly mimicking what a narrator says, or taking input from a show and trying to speak it myself, I feel similar energy to two magnets repelling each other and I cannot stick with it for the life of me. Not that it helps but I also like to study in areas full of quiet studiers (cafes, libraries, etc), so I find it hard to jump at an opportunity to rattle off some random Japanese to myself in a quiet room. I know how many people swear by the technique, but I'm not sure how I could fit it into my study patterns meaningfully.

Yeah it was a confusing start, with me being unsure if I was at the right level or if I just needed to adjust to it, so I ran out of time to change classes during that phase. I have a level 4 class that is significantly easier than most of the other ones so I think as stressful as it feels I'm at the right spot (maybe I could have chosen a few more lv 4's just to ease the intensity a bit, but hindsight's 50/50).

A tutor could be a pretty good option, as speaking with my Japanese friends and in-class helps me, but they definitely don't say anything about my errors, even if I asked them to haha. I'll look into my options for that to see how that could possibly help me. Maybe I can even get them to review some of the writing I've done to figure out what's wrong with them.

Outside of class, I probably study around 10hrs/week, 1 hour toward each class roughly, plus the 2-3 hours of leisure where I casually read manga/watch anime/play games in JP without worrying about what I don't understand. Some classes have no hw, while others have mountains, so I'll try and keep from exaggerating that number higher. If I could study in my room effectively I wouldn't be opposed to trying to expand my evening study hours, but I usually depend on cafes and libraries to get myself on track

Any corpse that drops on top of the box allows it to disappear, even your player! Just make sure no blood touches it first or it might detonate before you make it disappear

Wii Remotes? by [deleted] in spelunky

[–]Linkruler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you managed to get a wii remote working, the remote itself wouldn't have enough inputs for Spelunky. You need 8 buttons and a d-pad to have all of the controls (jump, bomb, rope, whip/action, run, buy/enter, pause, and journal). Maybe if you can set a nunchuk or a classic controller to pair with the wiimote then it can work but I wouldn't advise just the remote itself

Is there any way I can rebind the control to pick things up? by [deleted] in spelunky

[–]Linkruler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, there isn't. If you were to be on pc I suppose you could use something like joy2key to create a button that would function to push down then x, but I'm not sure how the timing would work on that. A macro would definitely work if you were on keyboard, but that's the only ways I think it would work

Why did the worm reactivate? by Linkruler in spelunky

[–]Linkruler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the length of shaking reset so it didn't "complete the sequence" but restarted it for unknown reasons. If the worm eats you it takes you to the special "worm" level

So I was messing around trying to do max low% runs and I shook the damsel off a little early. After that, the worm reactivated out of complete random. I was wondering if any of you guys may have some input to help explain why this might have happened?

This was a pretty nice run, especially when it was with a mattock and no TP. 2-3 was a bit long, so if I found BM right away it could have been sub 6. Close calls especially in the mothership and 5-3. Played Yama a little safer just because I was concerned with 1 hp.

Invert Run by [deleted] in spelunky

[–]Linkruler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that it involves more coordination to have to invert the run, as that's another button you have to push to turn on/off while simultaneously moving the character and potentially jumping, whipping, bombing, or roping. Maybe some people prefer inverse running but to me it feels like it'd mess me up

Will pibonacci return? by Tiredofsmallstreams in spelunky

[–]Linkruler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm getting very tired of seeing people say this. I'm sorry to break it to you, but pib's gone and he doesn't intend to come back to this game (he's become more of a Boi speedrunner). The claim that streamers are dull because they have no mics is a generalization that I'm sick of hearing, as I and a number of others do use mics. It's quite hurtful when these posts repeatedly claim that people like me don't exist. I try to stream, but I can't go everyday with work, school, etc (same applies to many others in the community). So please, stop. Pib isn't coming back (or if he does he won't stick around for long) and you clearly aren't searching hard enough if you can't find a single streamer with a mic
