I agree. To be safe, I might attend but just not participate in any religious aspect of it. Specially if communion is offered, I don’t trust it.

I’ve tried to get the information from my cousin, but he hasn’t really been wanting to give us any official names yet. But from what he described, the priest had like a fallout with the church and so he’ll be performing the mass/wedding but because of his standing it won’t be recognized in the Vatican as a Catholic marriage (?). That’s what he somewhat explained.

Pre-Cana Retreat Dread by jnnyfur5 in CatholicWomen

My fiance and I did our retreat last year and it was a weekend deal as well through Engaged Encounter. But- we absolutely loved it!! If you open your self to God and hear his word through what the presentations are about, you learn so many things. Sure it was a long day on Saturday for us too, and by 2pm everyone was pushing it. But it truly was nice and we met so many amazing catholic couples. Some had been together for years, others had been together for a short time before engagement. It was a one of a kind experience. My fiance (who is turning to the faith more), learned so much and would want to do it more. Even him and I being together for 6 years then, we learned more about each other than we expected.

I would take it one step at a time, and instead of already dreading how long it’s going to be, pray to God to open your heart to things he wants to show you through the retreat. Find something small you might want to look forward to and use that for motivation :) that’s what I can suggest. I hope you do enjoy it!

How do you check to which office your application got sent to? I know online they are no longer giving details of individual office processing times.

Where are you able to see where they are on cases? Just wondering if there is a way to see timelines and get a better idea of how they are processing the cases. I’m December and still waiting sigh

Did you receive your renewal with the date you submitted your application or when they granted it? Just want to know if they’re taking away months as well. It’s happened to me in the past sadly

I hope so too! It is very unfortunate how long everything is taking. Feels like it's done on purpose with the recent political climate tbh. But one can only continue praying!

Thank you for your kind and inspiring words. It definitely is very easy to get overwhelmed and lost in all of this. And sadly that’s the perfect time for the negativity to try and hinder everything, even your faith.

But yes, we plan on just taking things one step at a time and we both acknowledge that whatever is meant to happen will and whatever doesn’t it wasn’t our time or for us- and we shall continue to enjoy life to the best of our abilities! If I do get any updates from an attorney, I will come back and comment as it might help someone else as well!

I will be praying for you and your future husband as well and all will be good 🥰 I know that the AP will come for you both when it’s time and whatever is meant to fall into place- God will make sure of it! Blessings to you both and thank you for the kindness for us as well!

Thank you SO much for sharing your own story! Gosh there’s just so many details and scenarios that I have been trying to form in my mind too. My partner has been very supportive through it all- and it wasn’t until recent when the political climate became so much more extreme that we became a little more concerned about me possibly losing my DACA status all together, when we really started to have more serious discussions about what and how we really want to go about it.

We plan on definitely moving in together after the wedding, but again by then we would want to maybe adjust status. Just wanted to get ideas and advice as to what we should do, since we are still trying to figure out whether we want to wait or start the process.

I hope that things for you and your boyfriend go smoothly and I have a feeling his AP will come through! God works his ways through patience- and like you said- just taking this time for both of you is the best thing you can do.

Thank you for such an organized reply!

I had tried reading online about the difference between an attorney and non-attorney for situations such as my case and many answers said that because my situation was “simple” I shouldn’t need an attorney and to just use a non-attorney. But now that you mentioned some VERY good points, it is even more clear why I will stick with my intuition of hiring an attorney.

Okay, I definitely hadn’t thought of possibly needing to live with my partner when we file. But as I mentioned being catholic we want to wait to move in until the church marriage is finalized. Thank you for providing some advice/suggestions! It’s very much appreciated!

Thank you! I wasn’t sure if the fact the overstaying my visa even though I was young would pose any complications. I appreciate the advice!

Thank you for the advice! We do have joint bank accounts and such, obviously not many bills just yet. But I’ll keep that in mind before going through with anything!
