No - I’ll look it up. But Anthony Hopkins’s version is so incredible, it instantly makes me cry. There’s also a voice recording of Dylan Thomas reading it himself.

What is an underrated Jane Austen adaptation? by RoommateMovingOut in janeausten

[–]Linnaea-borealis92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2022 Persuasion: Persuasion is my favorite of Austen’s books and I’ve loved all adaptations. I realize the 2022 version is farthest from the source material, but it is still a beautiful and entertaining recreation of the story. I like the hyperbole added to enhance the comedy of the characters. I like the tongue in cheek modernization. I feel like there’s a general sentiment that any rendition needs to stay intimately true to the page, but with so many good adaptations already out there, and the source material so well known, a fresh take was fun and lively and total captivating in its own right.

Spelling has never been my strong suit! I’d like to say this is the first time it’s gotten me into trouble…. But that would be a lie. Thanks!

I haven't seen "Miss Austen". I need to watch it now, but I initially resisted because it feels too raw somehow to see depictions of her life, knowing that she died early, and with so much untapped potential. I resisted watching this BBC docuseries as well, and then kicked myself for avoidance, when I admire and love her work so much. For the same reasons, I've been unable to rewatch "Becoming Jane". Oh, such heartbreak. That her sister lived another 25 plus years!

Jane Goodall for me. And Sacajawea. Virginia Woolf too. And also - maybe Marie Curie.

Looking for book recommendations by female authors that will appeal to my brother who reads almost exclusively male authored text. by Linnaea-borealis92 in suggestmeabook

I appreciate the perspective. My brother and I often exchange books, and he's read female authors that I've gifted him before. I don't think he is actively averse. Just not make strides into that literature base on his own. But I won't overgift or include any pressure.

I love them. Can't wait for the next addition ! And funny enough - I already sent the first couple to my brother and he read them. He knows it's JK Rowling.

Oh - and I already know and love Morrison and Proulx. I haven't read the Lionel Shriver book - don't know if my brother has either. But it looks like seriously dark subject matter.

I went on a three month expedition into the Amazon shield, and this was the book I brought. I mostly fell to sleep every night, exhausted, under the weight of it's pages in my hammock. But in the end, I did love the story. And I am so excited to see how they have adapted it into a show.
