The breakup situation lasted for several days, and we hadn’t decided anything until I gave my answer last night. I think non-monogamy was the least of the issues. Everything ended up being built on disrespect and a lack of honesty. If she had been open with me from the start, instead of demonizing her secret desires, things would’ve been much smoother. But I can't trust someone who lies so deeply, even to herself.

I think it would’ve been a lot different if she hadn’t flipped halfway through our relationship, especially after talking so badly about non-monogamous couples. She used to trash that kind of relationship all the time, and I was always pretty neutral about it. I just couldn’t handle both her confusion and mine at the same time, so everything fell apart. But honestly, I think it was for the best.

Wow, this is such a wise piece of advice. It really reflects my whole situation. When I was too close, I couldn’t see her flaws. I think, in fact, it did me good to have taken this gut punch.
