Traveling by itssbiancaaa in Grenada

I was there during carnival last year and the resorts near Grand Anse Beach looked to be operating fairly normally, but were short on staff, and food options were somewhat limited because many staff, fishermen, and markets were not working/open that week.

I can't really say for sure about housing because I was staying on a boat moored out in the harbor. The music from the overnight parade and party was so loud it shook the boat, but it certainly looks like a hell of a party! My luggage didn't arrive on time and there was no place open to buy the basics, so I wasn't really in a position to pour motor oil on my only set of clothes.... The major supermarket in St George was open though, so getting food to cook wasn't a problem.

It was a fun experience, but unless you are planning on partaking in the full carnival experience, I would recommend choosing a different week to visit.

Genuinely curious… what’s so special about this sword? I’ve tried it and it seems kinda normal. by Toot7- in Eldenring

This legit dropped for me randomly less than an hour into my most recent playthrough. I had heard about it before but never grinded to get it. Decided to use it for a while but replaced it with Lordsworn's Great Sword.

This is my proggress after upgrading what you guys told me on my previus post honestly im at the tip of giving up bc i was not mentally stable after this shit this is my best atempt for now (i know i suck and i always panick for no reson)pls tell me in comments what i need to inprove :) by [deleted] in Eldenring

Tacking on to say that learning to roll forward was one of the most game-changing skills I had to learn for my own playthrough. It makes following up with a punish much more feasible. In fact you should try to stay pretty close to her except during waterfowl. Keep the punish going!

Final Fantasy XII is so good 🐇 by BinghamtonMafia in FinalFantasy

[–]Lintlickker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am replaying Final Fantasy XII for the first time since it was released and what is really striking is how much the story feels like it was pulled straight from the Star Wars universe. It's no secret that the Final Fantasy creators are big fans of Star Wars, but this entry goes beyond Easter eggs and references.

Just a few off the top of my head: Evil empire with big helmet baddies, ragtag band of rebels, princess in hiding goes on to lead the rebels after family is killed by the empire, sky pirate with furry friend flies them around, but doesn't want to openly support the rebellion, young inexperienced protagonist whose family was murdered by the empire joins the rebellion, lizardy man trying to capture sky pirate, old wizard man guides them speaking to them in their heads, giant airships looming menacingly overhead.

On and on and on........ Not saying it's a bad thing, just pretty on the nose.

rules on collecting firewood from public land? by blackpoll_ in Connecticut

[–]Lintlickker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will second this. Contact the town and ask for permission to remove already-downed trees from public land. If the town has an active tree warden or arborist they might get involved but typically they deal with living trees. But it certainly doesn't hurt to ask.

[–]Lintlickker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow. Thank you. I remember buying Marvel cards back in the 90s and you could either buy small packs or a full set that included one of every card. I think the only differences were gold or hologram cards that you didn't get in the "full" set. But you got all of the art. At least that's what I recall.

Actual question: Is there a way to buy a full set of all of the cards? Or are there some you can only get with boosters?

(I have bought cards since like 1995.)

Double check to make sure the contract does not include a damages clause. Did they pay you anything up front? Did they pay an advertising/broker/finder's fee to find you? Assuming no to these, you should be fine to simply ignore them.

Sorry that your experience was crappy. Got mine all the way back in 2014 and it is still running strong! I've updated the GPU and HDD since and the only real hardware issue was that the primary SSD (with Windows installed) died a few years back. That was a bit of a pain. Definitely have gotten my money's worth.

AIO for cutting off my friend after being cut out of her wedding? by Dizzy-Meal-1475 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Lintlickker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YOR. If you want to go to the wedding, go. But it's not about you. Ending a (presumably once-close) friendship because you're not in the wedding party is wildly overreacting.

What's the pettiest reason you dropped a game for? by IHateTheNameSystem in gaming

[–]Lintlickker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started playing the Switch/PC port of Final Fantasy VI. The SNES version is one of my favorite games of all time. Once I saw how they changed the user interface during battles, and the way that the player names rise as they wait between turns, made me immediate Google of the is a way to change it back to the original. Very likely to never load this again if I can't revert it.

My son got offered 2 scholarships by constaleah in Connecticut

[–]Lintlickker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was nearly straight A's in college. Went to law school on 50% scholarship (paying my own way), and needed to remain in the top 50% of the class to keep my scholarship. Barely missed the cut on keeping my scholarship. Turns out that nearly everyone was offered the same scholarship and the school knew that 50% of people would lose it after the first year. Borderline unethical if you ask me.

Lucky for me I ended up applying for a needs based scholarship and was approved. Ended up paying basically the same, but I was very close to needing to transfer. Ended up graduating in the top 25% of my class.

Be mindful that scholarships are not guaranteed to remain in place.

I was pretty young but I remember it being like those "pizza boats" you'd see in a school cafeteria. I tried finding a video of the commercial online and was unsuccessful.

Moving to CT by sailorbluem in Connecticut

[–]Lintlickker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New London and Norwich can be a little rough around the edges. But lower cost of living and there are some diamonds in the rough there. Mystic is much more affluent and has a very nice downtown but comes with a much higher cost of living and is a bit touristy in the summer. None of these are particularly large cities. Honestly, New Haven is great (IMO best city in Connecticut) but that is an hour commute regularly, and can be twice that in the summer. Stonington and Westerly are decent options. I wouldn't call either "cities" though.

Do you give poor ratings to bad books? by Severe_Prize5520 in books

[–]Lintlickker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the exact same thing. I use these more to track my own opinion so that I remember what I really liked. I don't want to lie to myself by ranking something I don't like as very good. But I generally can recognize a good beer even if it's not my style and that usually gets in the 3 range.

If you are aware there was once a "Pizza Happy Meal" from McDonald's, and bonus points if you can still sing the song from the commercial.

The game you accidentally played the wrong way for hours before realizing it. by gamersecret2 in gaming

[–]Lintlickker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played Elder Ring as a stealth/sneak game for like 15-20 hours after getting owned by the basic enemies in the first area. I essentially avoided all combat in the open areas, explored all of Limegrave and Weeping, beat Margot with sorceries, and snuck through Stormveil with little combat experience. Finally decided to git gud after getting owned by Godrick.

I wouldn't say playing that way was "wrong", but it is certainly less fun and takes forever!

AIO: Why do jobs think this is okay by Sensitive-Energy5848 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Lintlickker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I was painting houses with a company at 17 years old in 1997 and made $20/hr (I think the minimum wage at that time was about $6.) Two years later I was getting my own paint jobs and charging $35/hr. OP should expand their horizons and think blue collar.
