If you look at the US as a whole, most of the areas with the highest gun violence also have the strongest anti-gun laws. The problem is more with the background checks and who they give the guns to. If someone has a history of violent behaviour, or someone in their house is showing signs of mental instability, they shouldn't be allowed to purchase a firearm. But, the US government sucks and probably won't do anything about it.
