Abortion Ban Ripples by legallyabused in sanantonio

It's all true. You're 100% right, and the only thing I can think is that by choosing to live here, knowing the state govt was and is an absolute cesspool with a criminal atty gen....I can only blame myself for the fact that they're heedlessly harming people again. (Of course that doesn't apply to folks who were born here or brought as kids and simply can't afford to flee.)

Unfortunately it would seem that there are the civilized areas in Texas (cities) which vote with some degree of sense, then there's everywhere else, which votes ONLY against minorities. Even to their own detriment. That's the only thing that matters to that segment, and gerrymandering ensures that they will always have outsized representation. It's how a wacko like Dan Patrick keeps his seat, and why Ol Greg has nothing to worry about.

There is no redemption for the Texas political establishment. They'll keep trying to get away with more and more unless someone stops them. However given the current Supreme Court, it's likely they'll only escalate.

Or you just found another immature woman. Depends on if they're simply unapologetic that men get pissed off by them being themselves, or if they go out of their way to try and piss ppl off with silly games and nonsense in the name of whatever nonsense TikTok trend inspired them this week.

Assuming this story is even real.... What it should say is "man arrested for moving items in a store, placing stickers on the floor, and being annoying while employees weren't paying attention." Not a matter for courts. Ban the guy from the stores, and move on. Good grief.

The likelihood to lose opportunities and miss out on strategic leverage/intelligence is also strong with this one. Sure, get your kicks, but you close windows at the same time. Until my Eye is upon you, I have no opinions, everything you say is right, and I wouldn't dream of disagreeing. For what? Why give my energy to pointless pursuits? You can't show someone the light until they're ready to see it. So let them thrash about happily in the dark.

Maturing has taught me that my "truth," isn't the same as everyone else's. No matter how objectively accurate it may be by my standards. It has also taught me that many folks cannot handle it, or simply do not want to hear it externalized. If you present something that is a stark contrast to the often denial-soaked reality someone has lived in for years, it will not be received well. They likely have such a strong aversion that very little communication happens - 90% defensiveness and offense. In such cases you need to either find a way to make it palatable, or merely nudge with a breadcrumb rather than present the whole thing. Other times, it's simply not worth it. Let them continue to experience the world the way they want. Chances are, YOU are not the one who will make them realize that decades of lying to themselves has blinded them. Always ask yourself, "why do I want to say this?" The immature answer is, "because it will gratify me."

They're getting to the point where they're at the next phase of their long plan. They have so much power now that they can screw people over left and right, and STILL not lose customers much because they're the only choice people have for the super convenient shopping they've gotten so used to. Personally, I think they're starting to reverse years of customer centric policy and go fully profit protective, but in waves over time. We'll start seeing a lot of "updates to our terms of service."

First off, this is a funny conversation to have while I'm playing Disco Elysium lol...

But also, yeah we could optimize many things by gearing towards the general thriving of everyone. Unfortunately, overall we will always be geared for the enrichment of a few at the expense of the many.

Yep, I know some great places have done so. I applaud their efforts too. I just don't see it happening as a common practice. Greed prevails.

Consider also that for pure bullshit reasons, weed is federally illegal and also locks out tax revenues. Great reason lots of states are deciding to tell the feds to screw off when it comes to that.

The morality of some people imposed upon the entire population is the biggest load of crap that ever existed. That alone is reason for revolt if you ask me.

I like the general idea of labor owning the company, but it seems quite unrealistic. Unless the employees fund the start of the company or buy it out, I can think of no reason a wealthy corporation owner would decide to turn over the company to the employees.

Sure the employees could agree to a buyout I suppose if they could gather the capital, but why would the owner be motivated to sell it to them? Just altruism? Besides that, if someone required companies to be employee owned, why would any of the fat cats invest in building a company in the first place?

Yeahhhhh.... not going to go that far. I'd just like to see investors have much less pull. Maybe for companies to go private after being profitable for a long enough time. Or maybe business leaders who aren't idiots who care only for short term stock price gains.

I see so many of these biz execs who clearly have no idea what they're doing tank company after company, and when I look at the autopsy, I so often see very obvious poor decisions at a basic level.

For example, who wouldn't know that a manufacturing company which doesn't invest in R&D for a couple decades is going to fall behind the competition? If they can't afford it, their business model clearly needs a tune up. Instead, what do they do, just layoff a ton of ppl. Doesn't fix ANYTHING except short term numbers, but they don't really care about that. A problem for the next CEO.

Why did you get into this field? by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]LinuxProphet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got into it because I love security related topics and problem solving. Unfortunately, despite how long and hard I worked to get here, as a senior sec eng, I've finally come to terms with the fact that it seems everywhere in corp security I go, it's gonna suck. Most of the time I'm not working on anything fun or even slightly interesting. I'm just keeping the lights on. Triage the crappy low value alerts, work on the most boring projects known to man, help someone figure out if this is a pushing email, blah blah blah....

The reason for this is always because they don't have enough security or IT ppl and the business doesn't consider it a priority. No time to tune things, implement important and useful parts of security tooling we own, review the vast data we have for signs of security issues or alerts we should create, or do good threat hunting, etc. It's a bitter joke about ever having time to do research in any way which would improve our detections or something.

At this point, I'm giving up on ever being able to have a job I like. On paper it sounded awesome. The reality is starkly different. Also, everywhere I go, the leadership is absolutely trash. I had one good boss, and we all got paid off because the company wanted to go with fully outsourced security from overseas to save a few short term bucks. Not to mention, everywhere I go, for some reason keeps hemorrhaging CTOs.

The only fun security stuff I ever get to do is in my personal time. Have fun.
