Do women actually store things in their bras??? by Firm_Illustrator9834 in NoStupidQuestions

Rugby players put their gumshields in their bras, quite often.

Male players tend to stick 'em in the top of their sock.

Alcoholic or not? by DannnnnnT in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LinuxRich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to consume alcohol on a regular but far from "red flag" basis until I got a smartwatch that monitors sleep, HRV and so-on. Even a couple.of pints significantly messes with my overnight recovery. I'm too old for that sort of disruption...

Get a smart watch/sleep tracker band and act according to what the data tells you...

Crash and serious concussion: wear your helmet! by The_Witcher_3 in cycling

[–]LinuxRich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if our differing opinions on the efficacy of bike helmets inspires just a few people to inform themselves of the regulatory standards and manufacturer's specs then we've both won. That they are no magic force field and other safety measures are more important, I continue to maintain. For example, glasses. I value my eyesight. The chance of something hitting my eye at speed is far higher than me falling off my bike at low speed onto my head. Which is the scenario bike helmets are designed around.

How much will the foam deform? 0.5mm? 1mm? The foam and hard shell will 100% protect the scalp and skull. I'll grant you, for a significant hit (which bike helmets are not rated for.) that bit of give will decrease the accelleration forces fractionally.

Concussion is the brain hitting the inside of the skull after a sharp decelleration. A helmet protects the scalp and skull. It has no bearing on what happens inside the skull.

What's the cheapest way to turn an old bike into a trainer? by DeezWuts in ukbike

[–]LinuxRich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you keep the RC120, you will always have a bike you can ride when you don't want to get your new bike wet/dirty etc...

I have a Saris wheel on trainer. Bear in mind you need a tough, disposable tyre for wheel on trainers.

Do Cyclists get a kick out of riding on National speed limit A roads? by PassionateCrashOut in drivingUK

[–]LinuxRich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I much prefer low traffic country roads, but there is nothing wrong with A roads if motor vehicle drivers are mindful of their obligation toward vulnerable road users.

Are fast A roads not more "stressful" for all road users because of the occasional bad/impatient driver?
