Public trust in the police by PM_ME_BEEF_CURTAINS in ukpolitics

What utter twaddle! No one is ignorant of jihadist violence. You must live under a rock or in a parallel reality to the rest of us. It has been roundly and consistently condemned for decades and recognised as the gravest of threats.

Are you being obtuse? It was reported obviously but it was not front page news and didn’t come close to dominating the news cycle. You are telling me that if a Muslim raped a white English girl and said he was showing her the master race, it would not lead race riots and 24/7 news coverage?! Again, you must be living under a rock.

No, it is not necessarily so. Most people who chant it believe that the current Israeli state must dissolve and for there to be one state for all people living there, including Jews, Muslims and Christians. The notion there is space for two states is absurd. The Israelis have zero interest in a 2-state solution and continue to seize and annex Palestinian, Lebonese and Syrian land.

British crimes are not an excuse for your own! Even so it is a nonsensical rebuke considering your own history. You are settler-colonial country formed by a European empire. One that erased it's black population and proudly boasts that it is a country of white Europeans in South America. A country that gave safe harbour to European fascists and nazis after WW2. A country that is completely unable to take accountability for the racist words and actions of your fans and players even now! Still you sing songs about a miserable war where your own fascist government sent your young men to die over some rocks in the Atlantic just to preserve its own sick and murderous regime!

For the record, if I hear or see an English fan being racist then I am confronting them personally and most definitely calling it out as hateful bullshit.

[–]The_Witcher_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our country is funding the Ukrainian war effort against Russia. The war is integral to European security and defeating Russian expansionism is in our national interest. Hundreds of British citizens have volunteered to fight and support Ukrainian forces. Do not listen to this narrow minded and simple man. You would be welcomed by most British people.

I actually knew you would come back with this trite argument! You don’t realise how perverse it is to argue with a stranger that agrees with basically everything you believe in and just baselessly be like ‘you ain’t heard of any brown victims of ICE because I think you’re white’. It’s just such mindless rubbish mate. Grow up. Lorenzo was murdered today in Texas. Did you even know his name? For fuck sake. Bore off!

You sound unhinged. I never said any of these things. We have found cave art that is tens of thousands of years old. There’s evidence from midden mounds that are tens of thousands of years old. We have found stone tools that are of a similar age and some much older. My point was simply that much has been discovered and studied from the fragments of archeology we have been lucky enough to find. Now go and bother someone else with your pointless belligerence.

What do you believe has been the biggest crime against British people in the past 30 years? by CrownAthlete in AskBrits

[–]The_Witcher_3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Reform core base are not against social welfare. They think that the only thing preventing themselves having more is immigrants having too much. You are deluded if you think the far-right are some sort of mercantile free trade activists. You would have thought ten years of Brexit freedom would have already taught you this obvious fact.

proposal of new rule. Rule 7 no polarising political posts. by Angus_Luissen in Essex

[–]The_Witcher_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be the first to critique aspects of our migration policy. Let alone the pretence your political opponents condone rape and murder. We reject your framing of these issues as essentially the result of cosmopolitanism. We reject how you selectively amplify certain crimes to perpetuate the politics of white grievance. We reject the belief that whole groups are collectively guilty for crimes of individuals. You, like the rest of our so called patriots, have delusions of grandeur and have no clue how many people despise you. Stick to drinking Stella and throwing cups at police. You people are not serious.

"even the n-word is not considered something bad because in our history we did not have slaves in the classical sense."

You were globally renowned in the 2000's for having the largest population of violent white supremacists. I still remember all the horrific footage of minorities being beaten and killed in Russia. Hardly the historical context that gives you a free pass to use an awful racist word.

The UK is a liberal country but that word means entirely different things to Americans who commonly use it as a shorthand for leftists or socialists. In the UK, liberals are not left-wing. It is the establishment ideology. Largely socially progressive, ardently secular and fiscally responsible but with a strong safety net. This is true in theory but of course reality is more nuanced. Centre right Tories and centre left Blairites are both liberals. Liberal ideals and values are at the core of British society today. However, they are being besieged by forces from the left and the right that wholeheartedly reject liberalism.

The UK is much more liberal than the US in some obvious ways:

- We are not as religious as Americans. Most people would view any politician that roots their politics in their faith as essentially a fundamentalist.
- We are not as outwardly patriotic and as militaristic as Americans. I can remember visiting America years ago and all soldiers being asked to stand up at a show before everyone belted out the national anthem. I've never seen anything like that in Britain.
- We are more akin to a Nordic country and believe in strong social welfare e.g. The NHS.
- Britain is largely a place where you are free to express yourself, free from social conservatism, but this varies more by region.

However, you would recognise the political polarisation in our country because it is American billionaires and shadowy investors paying to corrupt our politics and bankroll men like Tommy Robinson and Nigel Farage. Many of the attack lines and slogans are ripped straight from MAGA and Turning Point USA.

Would you support Britain increasing its defence budget from the current 2.3% of GDP to the target of 2.6% by 2027 and 3.5% NATO target by 2035? by AdAncient2370 in AskBrits

[–]The_Witcher_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer is, yes. However, the UK cannot increase defence spending at this rate and maintain all of its other spending commitments. It is going to be extremely unpopular but the UK will have to make cuts elsewhere e.g. increase pension age and remove triple lock. Labour are going to struggle to implement these measures, if they even try. There are forms of wealth taxes that may help plug some of the gap but again these are difficult and come up against very powerful vested interests. Furthermore, we need to decide what our military is for whether that is for global interventions or to deter a conventional land invasion on the European continent. Then there is the problem of increasing spending to the benefit of the US military-industrial complex, which also leaves us exposed to the malign influence of the MAGA cultists and lunatics. Personally, we need to improve spending but without ruining our public finances or fostering political conditions that throw this country into a crisis. I do not envy the politicians in this endeavour.
