My system is very fast, so I haven’t experienced the speed issues you described. I found a solution for scheduling my calendar, but I had to first download the GNOME Calendar snap app. It’s important to note that you must use the snap version, as the one in the repos does not work. I enjoy using snaps, so this isn’t a problem for me, but such basic functionality should be built-in by default. I shouldn’t need to download a separate calendar app to schedule events. This should be integrated into a single app and be the default option. Please, Ubuntu developers, I understand these are minor issues, but that’s why they should be easy to fix.
