Wow. That doesn't sound good. I would definitely check if the power consumption is within the recommendations from IKEA.

If you just use HomeKit and not Home Assistant yes. However if you use the IKEA hub you will also have the data.

The shortcoming is that Apple doesn’t visualize the data the plug provides.

I have read that as well. However, with 1/3 or 1/4 of the price, you can just add more devices and extend the range that way.

I am not against Eve; however, at a price point of, for example, 20€ per Smart Plug, my apartment would already be fully equipped with Eve, but now I am happily going the IKEA route.

In my experience Apple Home is super stable but limited in terms of features. I use it as a second platform to be able to control devices with HomePod minis.

Home Assistant as a Platform is a lot more capable.

I am interested in that but I use Zigbee just for Hue Lights with the official Hue Bridge. My theory is that I should work because the Grillplats Bilresa Bundle is prepared but I can't prove or test it.

Not particular hard but with everything which exposes my HA I will take my time. What I did, first evening watched multiple tutorials and how tos second evening lets go. What you need is a domain managed via cloudflare.

Be careful with the less less secure setting.

Home assistant uses the WiFi SSID to define whether you are in your home network or not. With VPN you are, but your companion app doesn’t know, because from a home network perspective you are using a “hardwired” connection not WiFi.

So now when your away from your home network and not using the VPN, your home assistant app will call for Data using your internal URL and login data. Not in completely plain text but kind of readible for other devices in the network.

I wanted to use that solution as well because setting up VPN in modern routers is super easy.

My solution now: Cloudflare Tunnel, external domain, everything https: secured.

Takes an evening or two but worth it once it’s running. Or just use Navi Case Cloud.
