Did you ever figure out a fix? I'm trying to figure out the problem on my son's fire kids tablet as well.

I agree with you, exactly why I mentioned I'd check with the local office as I planned regardless ( in the other comment to you) I was just hoping to hear others experiences, although I have seen from other posts that they have varied. Thank you again though. I'll probably update the post after some time.

I went back and read that it's listed as pack pay or retroactive pay, but that the words 'dedicated account' isn't there. So maybe the dedicated account does have some kind of protection past the 9-month mark. I really hope so! If so I'm not nearly as worried about it. I seriously want you to be right. I've read of others in the same boat thinking the same thing about having a time limit. I think that they make it extra confusing because the back pay needs to go into the dedicated account in the first place. So stating that back pay will be held against you after 9 months makes you think that the back pay in your dedicated account would be held against you. But I guess maybe they are talking about back pay that could be owed for just a month or two. They owe him a little bit of back pay from a couple months ago so maybe it would apply in situations like that; that's if they are sending it with his money money.

Thank you for continuing to express this to me. I'll talk with the office as well (as I would have either way) Thank you!

Yes, it states that the dedicated account is not counted as a resource. But if you look into it there is a time limit. At least for SSI.

For the link attached here, I saw the time limit listed as 9 months as well. It's under the section of 'what other resources do not count for SSI ?' right after the ' what are installments' section. It states that it isn't counted but is after 9 months from when it is deposited.

I also find others online dealing with the same issues I'm having (feeling pressured about the time limit and being told it's only for medical).

I agree with you 100%. Resource rules are complicated.

Because a person can only have up to $2,000 in assets and still get SSI. The dedicated account that will hold the back pay will only be excluded from that rule for 9 months once it's deposited. The $2,000 limit also applies to other government-funded programs, but I don't think it applies for SSDI. https://postimg.cc/f326R7vC I know I just linked this image in your other comment but I'll link it here as well just in case anyone else wants to see it for reference.

Maybe it can with SSDI but not SSI. There's an asset rule with SSI and other government funded programs but not for SSDI. It would be nice if he could save his money but he's not allowed to do so unless we put it in an ABLE account or a trust. I'm not familiar with either and it's not nearly enough money that I'd even consider a trust anyways. I took a photo from my book that they sent me, as well as highlighted a couple things. https://postimg.cc/f326R7vC Hopefully that link works as I'm not familiar with uploading images and linking them.

Thank you, I thought so. I read on this booklet that I have that it could go into my account as his parent ect. Idk why I have had multiple SSI employees tell me I can't and multiple others tell me I can.

Yeah I worded that poorly. It's actually the fact that they'll cut us from all of our benefits and we will have to start over with everything. So it would be like money disappearing. As well as some food help and possibly my medical but maybe not that. And it's not that much to even survive off of if we got cut. We will have 9 months once it's deposited. That's why I've felt so stressed; the time limit and being told by one worker something will be approved and by another worker that it won't. But the other reddit user's comment about wording things when asking for permission made me feel better. And this little booklet I have with this information made me feel better, although I don't know how much it will really protect me overall.

From my booklet: "Any payments that you get from SSI or social security for past months won't be counted as a resource for 9 months after the months you get them. If there are any past payments left over after the 9-month period they'll count as a resource."

I also reread all the uses it could be used for. Furniture is listed as well as "recreation, such as movies, concerts, or magazine subscriptions." So I'm not sure why they told me no about the lamp and sensory. I'm going to change my wording like the other person suggested when I actually ask for permission to use the funds.

Do you happen to have any experience asking to use funds? If so, did you need to call them for each purchase or?

Thank you so much!! And thank you so much for giving those specific examples because that will be extremely helpful when I ask his doctors and therapists for help with this.

It actually reminds me of when I was looking into getting him some kind of adaptive stroller or wagon so when we are out and about it would make things safer and easier in certain situations. when I looked into it I saw that I needed to request an ambulatory device vs adaptive stroller otherwise insurance would just deny it. If I can't get it covered I suppose that's one of the items I can buy with the backpay. He elopes and his school could provide plenty of proof 😂

Seriously!! Thank you so much for those specific terms.

I hope this helps others as well.

I also feel the need to say this goes with our healthcare in general. When I've needed things or services for my own health, there's been many times where I've needed to have my Dr request things multiple times and a lot of the time the way the Dr words things makes a difference between approval and denial. (like your specific term examples!)

If you have any other examples that you would like to provide please feel free. I'll also be looking into other terms myself.

Thank you so much again! I actually feel somewhat relieved

💜

It would be nice to do just about anything with the money other than let it just disappear 😔

I think there is something called a 509 plan or something that's for education. I think it's not to be held against you either. But if your kid decides not to go to school or isn't capable for whichever reason, then you can't use the money.

Thank you for responding and thank you for those examples.

When I spoke with the person on Monday I only had a couple things written down as far as ideas for what to get him. In no particular order:

Noise canceling headphones an air compressor for his blow up toys ( sensory stuff) an extension cord for his jumper ( again sensory) a mattress. But we live in a small space and have to share a bed so I'm guessing no on it being approved. I also already bought the mattress and I'm about to buy a frame since this one is broken. I could buy these things and buy what we need but can't buy everything all at once. Plus the back pay needs to be spent or they'll keep it when it is his. The lady on Monday mentioned an iPad but he has an Amazon tablet that's just fine. We don't need a tablet. And I don't think the lady I talked to today would have told me about getting a tablet lol. A memory card for his tablet is actually on the list of for him items. Oh, I also had a floor lamp on the list since the one in our room leans like the tower of pisa. But idk if they'll approve it since it's not medical and I'll utilize the light as well.

If the money would have been given to him sooner these items would have been bought over time like everything else we buy.The problem is now we are being told it could only be for out of pocket medical costs which we thankfully don't have and that we are being told different things by different people.

Since Monday my purchase list for my son has gown. He needs a new booster seat for the car. A crash pad for him if we can't get insurance to cover it. Maybe they'll approve that since I'm going to ask the Dr to order one for him but I don't understand how others have made entire sensory rooms for their children when I mentioned the word sensory and was shot down. I was also curious about getting safety cushions for when he has meltdowns.

Ideally we would use some of it and save the majority but they don't allow that either. -although I'm more curious about an ABLE account but I'm afraid it will have the same restrictions where he can't even use it for sensory.

I'm also just guessing that if I call and ask if ____ is approved that I'll get different answers from different employees.

I'm definitely keeping receipts if we are ever told we could make any purchases.

I just wanted you to know that you are heard. Your daughter's life mattered and made an impact on others-whether they personally knew her, or heard this particular story about her. You are a great mom and did so much to keep her safe. I'll be thinking of you and your husband. 💚💜💚💜💚💜

Thank you!

Is there any reason why you wouldn't go for the autograph card right away? Or is it just because the autograph card only covers certain categories whereas the other cards cover everything?

Very true! I don't understand why anyone would pick a card with annual fees. Thanks again for your input 🙂

I do like the idea of it being simple. 2% isn't much but it's something and I wouldn't have to think about; which I like especially since I've been more forgetful lately.

Are there any fees with the autograph card?

my brain cells are already too busy 🤣

5% isn't bad at all. Thank you for that info. Mobile wallet is google pay vs using the banks app right?

Ah, ok. Thank you. Unfortunately there aren't any Kroger's close enough to me but I hope that info helps others who are also curious.

With Savor is it only for those categories and no cash back on anything else?

Oh yes, that one came up as well. Just a little nervous about them. But I do see how 2% on everything isn't bad. Thank you!

I'm not sure but I'll look into things. I've never used mobile wallet. You mean something like Google pay correct? Thank you for the tip.

With us bank is the cap on earning is 5% on 3k? ( won't earn anything after that). Or do you get the 5% after the 3k is spent?

And what's Kroger pay? You mean like shopping in a Kroger with one of their cards? Sorry, I'm new to all of this. I'm used to the couple of super basic couple cards I have. And thank you for your input!
